Was shocked to hear this - so sad. ZZ Top was a great band and the original members stayed together for 50 years - pretty amazing

Damn, man... Awful news. End of a long, long story of ZZ Top. 50 years together is a damn long time.

I saw ZZ Top headline at the Memorial Stadium in Austin in front of 80,000 fans in 1974. It was a concert I'll never forget.

Saw them at the Great Allentown Fair in 2004. Helluva show. I'd always wanted to see them again, but just never got around to it. :(

Listening to songs Dusty did the vocals on now. Started with Got Me Under Pressure. On Delirious now. Going to Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers next.

ZZ Top gained a lot of fame from their MTV videos in the early to mid-1980's with hot cars and hot women but most importantly their hard core rock music style. Dusty Hill was an underrated base guitarist. Apparently he had some health problems including hip and shoulder injuries/operations.

Incredibly sad, this was taken a couple days ago in Michigan. This is a man who should have been anywhere but up on stage. He should have been in the hospital.

I saw ZZ Top several times, but wasn't always the biggest fan, per se. But from huge stadium shows to an impromptu show in AUS once in a little club, they were genuine, and Dusty was so real.

I walked past him at IAH once when he was coming off a redeye from LAS. George Foreman was also on that flight. It's about 630h, and George is smiling, taking pics with people, signing autographs. Dusty walks off, just keeps walking, and I wasn't going to bug him. But when I walked past him in the hall, I just gave him a nod and grinned. He nodded back, cracked a small smile, and kept walking. It was this unspoken kick ass moment of coolness.

Texas music lost a legend...

Love their early stuff, especially their first three albums. But man, i've seen them at least a half dozen times, they have to be one of the most boring bands live.

Interesting comment.

I have all their 70s albums on CD and gotta say the recordings are pretty amazing given the studio tech of the era. For instance, I love how clean the start of "Fool For Your Stockings" is. I never did see them live because friends who did said the live show didn't capture the magic the albums have. My own watching of later DVDs and u2b performances agree with that and with what you said, unfortunately. Because of this, I could have seen them a few times over the last decade or two but never made the effort. I definitely respect them for keeping together for 50 years and being true to their music. RIP, Dusty!
