No, they aren’t. I did not make those statements so that we can debate them instead of the position you hold; that because it’s government sanctioned racism in the pursuit of equity, it’s really not racism, or it’s OK. I made them to point out that governments have been wrong in the past. That’s all.
Equity means equity. That means the given the same circumstances, the same punishment should be mete out. If the punishment is more lenient for one vs. the other because of one’s race, then the punishments are not equitable anymore. That translates into the justice system not being equitable.
Yes, I know, it’s probably not equitable now, but setting a system of inequity will not make it more equitable.
