Someone probably knows more than me but Gators don't actively hunt humans. They will attack one who protrudes on their habitat but I don't think they hunt humans because their bodies are more for quick explosive actions and on land they aren't particularly fast.

Correct, we are much larger than their preferred prey. They might scavage off a carcass depending on how limited their food resources have been.

It's called missing white women syndrome. It Started with Laci Peterson and Natalee Holloway and these two women were cute white girls and got a lot of media attention. When this happens to minorities or ugly to average white people it's often ignored.

Not Alligators but when I was with in Northern Australia I was on a tour through the Daintree River North of Cairns where we saw salt water crocodiles. They will take a large mammal like a human and kill them when they go near say a water source. We actually saw some dead cows in the area that this happened to.

The guide said if we fell off the boat. You are done, one single croc wasn't going to eat you but it's essentially dinner for the family for a few weeks.

Salties and American alligators have very different temperaments, with salties being far more aggressive and defensive. An alligator could attack but typically don’t. They could certainly consume a dead person.

Took the words right out of my mouth. There is no comparing those species - the salt water crocodile is easily set off and will attack just about anything.

If there is any good from this tragic story, it brought attention to other issues.

The far too common reality of relationship violence.

That several other cases of missing women including those other than young and White, in particular on Indian reservations, got attention with motivation that led to finding other women.

How law enforcement in too many places don't deal with relationship violence well at all.

That it showed how skewed our news and social media is as to certain people getting attention vs. others but also made us look at 'others' not White women who are victims of relationship violence

That 100's of people were willing to take risks to help search for the victim and Laundrie including unpaid volunteers.

That far too often parents have to deal with tragedy and some are (like Laundrie's) too willing to protect their child (even an adult one) from the consequences of crimes.

Two people are dead who didn't have to be. We need far more education in our schools and in the general public to discourage relationship violence which far too often starts in the teen years as well as with law enforcement to deal with it when they become involved.

Just an FYI...another example of similar size, similar species animals having very different temperaments and killing styles are the African leopard and North American cougar. They are similar size, yet the leopard is much more aggressive towards humans.

It's confirmed. Laundrie took the cowardly way out and offed himself. Sadly, we'll never really understand what transpired between him and Gabby.
