Sportsbook wars

Sun Dec 26, 2021 11:16 pm

I got to tell you. I am pleasantly surprised at how MGM and Caesars are going head to head in this war. I mean A list celebs in the commercials? Ben Affleck cant be hurting for work. Full disclosure i am not a sportsbettter at all. I bet the Kentucky Derby and Maybe one or two football gamed but that is pushing it. I love the Leon Black angle for Caesars. I think he is great. I guess the general public is using their phones to bet sports but it’s something to see how these two are going at it in such a way on TV ad space which are shown ad nauseam. I am not sure what demo they area going for but It is something to see how sports betting has gone totally mainstream. Especially since Draftkings has flourished.

What say you?

During the MLB playoffs I found the Draftkings' ads' naked appeal to greed to be both distasteful and dishonest. It's also obtuse and hypocritical to keep denying Pete Rose the Hall of Fame for gambling when pushing gambling now makes up about two-thirds of the broadcast.

Betting is of course one of mankind's oldest vices, and I'm not so naive as to think it wouldn't happen without this type of thing. But there's a difference between allowing something and shoving it in the faces of millions of people on primetime TV.

You would have to link the vid of the ads here for me to see. Don't remember them though I love their new ads with the mouthy woman pumping iron funny as heck. As for Pete Rose I believe he belongs in the HOF but I don't see how you are tying it in here. You really shouldn't be betting with any game you are involved in. It's a conflict.

Several US States beyond Nevada in recent years have legalized sports betting and casino style gambling in various ways. In particular is the recent legalization of online betting from your home computer or smartphones from states that allow it. States are going for it out of the need for more revenues, turning to 'sin taxes' from gambling instead of raising unpopular taxes like on sales, income. The operators of the gaming sites by casino operators needed new revenues as the Covid-19 pandemic badly hurt their main business. It also moves in particular sports gambling from criminal groups.

The legalization of online sports gambling has led to a massive proliferation of ads for it by the big casino companies like Ceasers, MGM, and newcomers. They use huge bonus or up front betting credits, expensive attention getting ads with characters like with Ceasers, celebrities, sexy women to get you to bet on their sites. What is not discussed in these ads is the potential destruction of persons, their finances, families from gambling, The 'house' and government will always win, the bettor will never really win in the long term. I fear it will encourage more to become addicted to gambling as 'legal'. To me there should be stronger national regulation of the ads, to including at least part of the ads noting the problems of gambling, the reality of more likely losing than winning, a ban on up front credits/bonuses.

I don't have much sympathy for gamblers. It's usually just one bad decision in a long stream of them that determines their life.

This is the excuse used for legalization of drugs but it really isn't supported by anything. When Pot was legalized, we didn't see a huge spike in usage. The House doesn't always win. They just win a small percentage over the long term. They make more money on slots actually I want to get into the scratch off market. That is what the most money.

Yeah Michigan legalized it at the end of 2019 I think. The immediate flood of commercials and ads constantly has been really annoying. That’s all I got
