Instead of just sailing from one homeport to another, they make a cruise of it. Three years ago, we did one on the Pearl which started in AMS and ended in FCO. It had stops in LeHavre, Brugges, Lisbon, Cadiz, Barcelona and a few other stops.einsteinboricua wrote:I'm booked on Epic for December (NY to PR just in time for Xmas). Did not know they had one-way cruises like that. How would you say Norwegian is? I have never cruised outside of the Celebrity/Royal Caribbean line since I had a good time with them and never looked elsewhere.

Norwegian Cruise Line cancels voyages on 8 ships
The Norwegian Pearl returned to Miami on Wednesday after one day at sea, cutting short a voyage that was scheduled to return to Miami on January 14. Several Covid cases among the crew prompted the move, according to the Miami Herald. Norwegian Pearl cruises with embarkation dates through January 14 are canceled.

It would not take much of an improvement to 'rescue' a disastrous vacation to a merely more adventurous than expected. It could well be some of those small staterooms with an exclusive elevator to a restricted area of the upper decks. Perhaps they are doing something like this already.

Sorry to about that. I hat about any airfare or hotels you’ve booked ? They cover that ?
DIRECTFLT wrote:Those articles are so much BS. The NCL ship isn't "stuck at sea", it's coming back at its original scheduled time. Yes, they are missing a few ports, but it's not their fault. The woman in the article seems like a dingbat. Days at sea are nice and relaxing. She's getting a full refund plus a 50% credit for her next cruise. If the ship came back early, she'd be complaining that she had to pay for a last-minute flight home. Some people just don't want to be happy. Maybe she should read the cruise line's terms of service. Now is not the time to take a cruise. No matter how many thousands of Covid tests are given before the ship leaves...

Continued cruises lead to confusion & chaos—as well as danger. Better to cancel before ships go to sea. Norwegian provides a teaching moment.

Looks bad if not the end for Crystal (and probably Dream and Star cruises).

Some passengers were taken by ferry to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday. The ferry ride was apparently “uncomfortable due to inclement weather,” according to a statement from a Crystal Cruises spokesperson. The company said guests were also taken to local airports, but wouldn’t comment on the lawsuit.
It was not immediately clear how many passengers were aboard, with one news outlet reporting 300 and another, 700. According to the company website, the vessel can carry up to 848 passengers.

Reminds me of the MarkAir (BF) bankruptcy, where U.S. marshals showed up and locked a tow bar to one of their B737s being seized on behalf of the lessor, right as they were in the middle of boarding it for a revenue flight!

What I remember most, is the large British Travel Agency, who operated planes, going bankrupt, and their customers being stranded all over the globe.

Sounds like Thomas Cook, although the repatriation was pretty well organised, and everyone got flights home, even those who technically weren't entitled to one. Anyway, I digress...
Last occurance that I know of a ship being arrested was last summer in Dover. Golden Horizon was briefly detained.

Tough outlook when the lifeboats are being removed for good. Also not get that $5 million has been designated to work on the ship, but the consulting firm thinks it needs $23 million in work in the next 2 years alone

I wish Long Beach would bite the billet and scrap the ship. No doubt the city can recoup the cost by selling developmental rights to the land surrounding it. At least it’d be developed into something useful, that locals may actually enjoy.
