Futaba, Fukushima, to be the last town welcome its residents back, 11 years after the nuclear accident

Thu Jan 20, 2022 3:45 am

https://news.yahoo.co.jp/pickup/6415745
The town, hosting part of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, is the last town in Fukushima still remain fully evacuated until now, 11 years after tsunami stormed the plant, releasing radioactive gases. However the situation is going to change, with the evacuation order lifting in the coming June, residents are now allowed to make preparation for their return to living in the town.
Area to be unlocked mainly includes the area around the town's center, around train stations, as well as area around major roads connecting to the area, in additional to coastal area outside the power plant's limit. Most of the mountainside are atill restricted and are still deemed to need longer time before residents can return there. The unlocked area of 555+220 hectares of land used to inhabit 1457 families with 3627 people.
----
I thibk there's still a question that, despite the radiation level being sufficiently lowered to the level which people can return to live in it, it doesn't mean the society and the economy of the town can be fully recovered from the accident. 11 years is not a very long time but it isn't a short time either, those who used to based their kife around this town would have already moved on. Especially in the country of Japan where in addition to declining and aging population, rural area population are still continuously flowing into urban area resulting in abandonment of villages even without such sort of disasters. What can such sort of towns do to attract at least its forner residents back to the area?

Rural economies are in peril throughout Japan. I have no idea what the government expects people there under 65 to do...though it’s unlikely many young residents would return in the first place.

Slightly related and unrelated, this is the same case in U.S.A. as well.

Although the reasons are somewhat different it is shocking that whole villages are falling off the map.

Urbanisation has been an issue in India too, the reasons being multiple. Especially with the current Govt. held bent to do 'developmental politics' . This has been happening for a while.

Nuclear accident?
Is that the new word for Tsunami?
A car that got swept away by waves, was it in a car accident?

It is very interesting to see people's choice of words when it comes to nuclear. Agenda, agenda, alwyas propaganda and agenda

Boiling Water Reactors are an excellent producer of Hydrogen. Hydrogen is the next best evolution in the Green New Deal. Electricity during the day Hydrogen at night.

Please tell me any country that has moved whole-sale or a bigger part of their economy to Hydrogen, you will see none. All has been moving to BEV, this for e.g. from Germany -

And this is where BMW is trying all sorts of tactics to see that the Tesla Gigafactory doesn't come up.

https://www.carscoops.com/2022/01/tesla ... 0-company/

I found some of the accounts quite amusing. For e.g. 'shellshock' exposed the vulnerability in microrpocessors that was already there, the only thing was the bad guys knew about it, the good guys didn't. When it became known, then both software and hardware mitigation was needed. AMD responded to it much faster than Intel.

Another thing that the poster didn't tell or share that linux powers all the biggest 100 supercomputers on earth, all of them. And quite a few of them even as security apps. But such random posters would be there all day :(

A train getting stuck by earthquake or a ship getting hit by a storm would both be a train accident and a maritime accident respectively. So would be a plane hit by storm.
Car stuck in these situations aren't called car accident simply because cars are individualistic. If it is a passenger-carrying taxi being swiped into sea by high wind then certainly it will also be called a taxi accident, despite the same vehicle driven by regular person would not be called a car accident.
I think the abnormal part here is how cars are being described instead of how nuclear are being described.

Exactly. We know now that Daichi wasn't as careful and had many lapses that went unreported to IAEA, even by the American inspectors. Why did they do that, we would never know. And sadly nobody even took any action against the American inspectors. And we also know even if it was triggered by nature, the ones who called the shots remotely bungled as they had never practiced and most were political figures rather than people who were actually fighting. The Fukushima 50 documents how things actually happened and we know that even those brave heroes are looked down upon in Japanese society. They couldn't find work or even had compensation. Couple of people died from radiation, and some others got cancer later probably due to the high exposure. And of course, now they are going to release thousands of gallons of water in the open sea saying it is treated water because they can't store it. And they have no solutions to date, they are looking for some miracle technologies for the clean-up to happen.

Eh that's a fictional movie arranged based on real life event, not a documentary

That 'movie' shared a lot of references, similar to Viceroy's house but that is only for those who wanted to look for it (look at the end credits) those who have convinced themselves that nuclear is so safe and nothing can ever go wrong, even though it has been documented that I shared in other threads that American inspectors even though they had een that Daichi nuclear plant wasn't following all the instructions, failed to report. When greed is the motivating factor, that is all you will get.

I don't think this thread is for posting movie review.
