Great quotes! I may disagree with Margaret Thatcher’s politics but she was one hell of a tough woman and that’s admirable. I think her discipline and no nonsense approach is something we could all learn and benefit from.

Incompetence annoys me. Overconfidence terrifies me.

This is what I fear the most. The nation is deeply divided and I have no idea how it can be remedied. Is it even possible to have a strong and uniting President with bipartisan support in these uncertain times? Have we already begun to destroy ourselves and is our decline inevitable? So many questions and so few answers.

“Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired. When you were younger the mind could make you dance all night, and the body was never tired... You've always got to make the mind take over and keep going.”

General George S. Patton Jr.

This quotation got me over the 8 mile hump when I was training for my first half-marathon.

“Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.” - Mary Schmich. Later made into the song Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen, by Baz Luhrmann.

Best part is, it's unbelieveably true.

Nobody with any Chuck Bukowski yet, so I'll chime in:

“People are strange: They are constantly angered by trivial things, but on a major matter like totally wasting their lives, they hardly seem to notice.”

I was in a high stress department at work for about a year and a half. Any time I needed a break, I would tell my co-worker "looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue". They got the reference and it helped get me through. I now have a better position, higher pay and way less stress.

The moderators claim that it was somehow too hard for them to keep policing that, so they took it away several months ago. Unsurprisingly, no announcement or warning was made about this, and it required digging out an obscure thread from Site Related.

That show was just so amazingly and brilliantly written and acted. So much nuance underwoven with overt violence and deliberation. Just a masterpiece.

Re: Favorite Quotes

My favourites quotes from King Eric:

"When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea."
To the media after getting a red card and a "Kung fu" kick against a supporter/hooligan?
Did he regret his kick?
“My best moment? I have a lot of good moments but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan.”
Or
"I didn’t hit him strong enough. I should have hit him harder."

Probably not from him originally, but the taught of most fans:
“You can change your wife, your politics, your religion, but never, never can you change your favourite football team.”
Probably how he really felt as a player:
“Leaving a club is like leaving a woman. When you have nothing left to say, you go.”

“I play with passion and fire. I have to accept that sometimes this fire does harm.”

Best regards,
Jonas

And an other crazy gifted football player; quotes from George Best:

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered"

"In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol - it was the worst 20 minutes of my life."

"I've stopped drinking, but only while I'm asleep."

"I've never been to the beach, to get there I had to pass in front of a bar and I always stopped there before getting to the water."

"I used to go missing a lot... Miss Canada, Miss United Kingdom, Miss World."

"They say I slept with seven Miss Worlds. I didn't. It was only four. I didn't turn up for the other three."

"If you'd given me the choice of going out and beating four men and smashing a goal in from thirty yards against Liverpool or going to bed with Miss World, it would have been a difficult choice. Luckily, I had both."

"It is typical of me to be finishing a long and distinguished drinking career just as the government is planning to open pubs 24 hours a day."

"I once said Gazza's IQ was less than his shirt number and he asked me: 'What's an IQ?'

"People always say I shouldn't be burning the candle at both ends. Maybe they haven't got a big enough candle."

On Eric Cantona from my previous post:
"I'd give all the Champagne I've ever drunk to be playing alongside him in a big European match at Old Trafford."

Best regards,
Jonas
