Update on
The Sullivans. She has been righted and temporarily repaired. 54 holes in her hull were plugged and 1M gallons pumped out. All the onboard artifacts were saved.
Her deck and first 2 levels are open to the public again, so she is earning some income. The lower levels are being dehumidified and will be open in 2023.
There are plans for permanent repairs, but they require a drydock. Nearest available is 90 miles away, so she might be towed. Or they might create a cofferdam and an impromptu drydock, to repair her in place.
She is a storied ship, like the similar USS Texas battleship that is also getting needed repairs. But keeping these old ships in museum status is a never-ending task.
