Insurance while traveling across the US.

Thu May 12, 2022 9:41 pm

Seems I am asking a question no one has ever seen before and was hoping someone here may know the answer. My wife and I are doing a cross country drive in a couple of months and would like to find a policy that covers the costs of a med flight from the scene of a crash or other an emergency. Not looking for hospital-to-hospital policies as they are easy to find. It's the one covering us for the very expensive flight from the ground incident. Anyone?

Insurance and medevac flights in the US is a complicated subject. Most are out of network and therefore only partially covered. The odds of getting into an accident and requiring a medevac are statistically very low. Any travel supplemental health coverage would be more than sufficient to cover any accidents or illnesses.

Look up the Divers Alert Network (DAN). They have phenomenal travel insurance and I don't think it has to be for a dive trip. I also don't know about inside the US, since its mostly used to cover trips to exotic dive sites.
