Thu May 26, 2022 4:48 pm

RIP, most of us remember him for one role in particular, I was also impressed by him in 'The Many Saints Of Newark';

"If you build it, he will come"

First introduced to him as Shoeless Joe in Field of Dreams.

Goodfellas pretty much was top notch.

RIP Ray.

Terrible loss. Great actor. Seemed like a nice guy. Loved him in "Goodfellas' and 'Hannibal' as the corrupt FBI guy. Purely, anecdotal, but evidenced by the fact that our life expectancy as Americans has gone down, it's staggering how young some people are dying these days.

One of my favorite stories of his was how he initially wasn’t that interested in doing ‘Field of Dreams’ because he didn’t really get it, but he came to really appreciate what the story was trying to do and how people constantly told him it resonated for them. Excellent self reflection to first think of something as just a job and come to realize one was part of something so special.

RIP. While he's done a lot of good movies, nothing can top his cameo in the Bee Movie!

Yup, and only when it happens to a celebrity is it being reported.

He had a dream-like look, effective both as a young mobster and shoeless Joe. Very memorable and watchable actor who will be missed. Nobody quite like him.

I knew his name but looking thru his filmography I think Bee Movie was all I've seen. Any recommends for the best of his I should search for?

There's a blast from the past.

For some reason, the opening sequence of that movie has always been one of my favorites. For a comedy movie, it's kinda almost like an iconic Vietnam War sequence for me.

He was in "Something Wild" three years before "Field of Dreams" and had movie and TV credits going back to 1978.

I am partial to the movie where his brain was on the menu.

But "Something Wild" was the movie that established him as a psycho bad guy. It had other up and coming actors like
Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith. John Waters had a cameo role.

Someday I may watch it. But not anytime soon unless Delta has in on their In Flight Menu for June
