I found this interesting, is this not a violation of freedom of the press and freedom of speech? This is pretty standard that for crimes the arrests. mugshots, etc are public information. This is also released to media when arrests occur.

This is a proposition. It is proposing to not release booking photos for people not actually convicted of a crime. If Joe Smith (name changed) is arrested for... say.... armed robbery, even though the same Joe Smith can verify he was 200 miles away from the crime, why would he, then, accept getting his name and reputation dragged through the mud?

That is very different than mug shots. Let the bodycam footage be released. Let people see what police do.
I had my mug shots. It was over a bench warrant for failing to respond to a state parking ticket. I don't care if anyone sees it. Hilarious story. But, for those who have done nothing wrong or those who break the law for things like prostitution (with legal and consenting adults) or those who are charged but not convicted because they were innocent from the beginning, holding off on the mug shot is a good idea.

Here in France this has always been banned, well, the police simply never released anything. And "perp walks" have been explicitly banned for a long time, with for example arrested people/prisoners having their faces hidden when there is a risk of encountering TV crews..
When Dominique Strauss Kahn was arrested and perp walked in New York, it caused quite an outrage here (aside from the reason of the arrest, I mean).

Yes, enough with the wild west stuff.
People are innocent until found guilty. What the average (maybe)criminal looked like at the time of their arrest is of no public interrest.
