It's extremely intensive (and extensive) farming. With no concern for the environment.
Lamb and beef aren’t a problem for the environment and it’s not intensive, herd numbers are significantly lower than before 1984 when especially lamb was highly subsidised. NZ dairy farming is different kettle of fish, our cows live outside year round and enjoy some of the best grass in the world, they’re not barn houses and grain fed. There is some issue with run off, but meh not my problem.
But you’re missing the issue NZ farmers are able to be competitive on the world stage without government subsidies of protections in the form of quotas and tariffs, EU farmers would survive without either.
