The UAE media office tweet included an image of the film's poster, with the profile image of its main character Buzz Lightyear with a "Prohibited” symbol.
The movie reportedly includes a character voiced by actress Uzo Aduba kissing another woman with whom she's in a relationship. The authorities said that this particular theme violates the media and content laws in the UAE.

Same same.
Same values. Different bank accounts.

I’ve been extensively in both states and countries—nothing like each other. To compare the UAE to America is just silly Prejudice isn’t a good look

Conservatives literally lost their minds over the same film one year ago, and have only spiraled further since:

GalaxyFlyer wrote:Since the topic has moved off-thread, The party that has spiraled out of their collective minds is the liberals aka progressives who, having campaigned on a return to normalcy, are screaming that those who disagree with them are “fascists”; “out to end democracy” and “election deniers”. All of which is pure projection. The progressives want to rewrite the Constitution; want to impose speech bans on their political opposition; have denied election after election; and rule by executive fiat unmoored by Congress. Anyone know where Biden’s $500 billion to find debt relief came from? No appropriation I can find. Where did Biden find the authority to continue rent moratorium after the SCOTUS explicitly denied he had that authority.

And, this film, not banned by the way, is related to the Netflix being considered offensive and removed by the Gulf states how?

Oh yeah? Go try to be gay or lesbian in the UAE and let me know if you still think they're the same.
They aren't anywhere close to being the same politically or culturally, and comments like that just show how blinded you are by your own biases.

How do conservatives losing their mind over the same exact thing as the UAE have anything to do with each other? Idunno it's a mystery!
Conservatives trying to purge any and every mention of LGBTQ or African American people from coast to coast, from libraries, schools, films, companies, you name it, makes the UAE look like a sensible request.SoCalPilot wrote:MaverickM11 wrote:Same same.

I know plenty of gay people in the UAE. Who do you think works for all those airlines? Meanwhile in TX the GOP inserted into its platform that homosexuality is an "abnormal lifestyle choice." And god help you if you have the audacity to go to a drag brunch in Texas--conservatives will show up and hunt you down and violently threaten the establishment until the event is canceled, for....reasons. Conservatives and the UAE have a lot in common!

The UAE wasn't compared to the US, the comparison was made to the Bible Belt which represents a small part of the US but, traditionally, has a very unique perception towards certain morals and values.

Maybe, but the deepest Bible Belt isn’t UAE, I been in both, lived in MS, too, no comparison.

As much as I find Texas in the current climate to be a backwards shithole, I'd much rather take my chances as a Bi person in Austin or Houston than anywhere in the Middle East. Your comment is ridiculous.

Total stab in the dark, but I’m gonna guess you’re a white, straight, god-fearing christian?
The latest UAE Penal Law introduces a new provision for parenting children born out of wedlock. It provides that anyone who has sexual intercourse with a woman who has completed 18 years of age, resulting in the birth of a child, shall be subject to a minimum of two years in jail.

Netflix should begin, then everybody else.
The worst thing you can do to the Gulf countries is isolate them and treat them like they are irrelevant and backwards…
Imagine the triggering if Ferrari or Fendi were to pull out of Dubai..

Really? Isolate them eh? Why only target the Gulf countries? The United States has some allies right now that have already done exactly what some Gulf states are planning to do now - censoring Netflix content. If the crime is the same should the punishment also not be the same? Why is one guy your prized ally and the other is targeted for Sanctions?

I’ve seen plenty of openly gay couples in the UAE. Yes, public displays of affection may cause trouble, but that’s true for unmarried straight couples as well.
Houston and Dallas are one thing, try being openly gay in Alabama. See the infamous “Top Gear” episode. https://youtu.be/pKcJ-0bAHB4

These countries are already significant allies of the US, and thus are open to criticism on this subject (and so is the US on its foreign policy).
I don't have to reiterate what the UAE or KSA think of LGBT people and how it compares to other moderately gay-hostile US allies like Italy or Japan.

Try driving vehicles emblazoned with statements that go against the local religion, football/soccer, into Manchester UK and see what sort of reception the Mancunians give you. When in Rome, don't deliberately go out of your way to piss off the Romans.
