How often do you need a car battery replacement that one can build up brand loyalty?
Or are the ones you have failing so often that you need a new one? In that case I would rethink the loyalty

Hey guys,
Petrol: BP for the Qantas FFP
Bookshop: Abbeys then Dymocks then Kinokuniya (even though they have the best civil aviation book range of the three)
Take care,

I have two vehicles and drive cross country every year and back so I can't wait for them to fail to replace I usually replace them on a schedule of just under 4 years. Can't be in rural NM and have my vehicle not start. Plus I work on my parents vehicles for them. Also when I left my truck in NV all summer and flew home the heat destroyed every new battery I put in. The guy at the auto parts store laughed every November when I came in with the dead battery.

I've never had a battery replaced in the 30 years plus I've owned cars. Back when I had two cars, the summer car was left outside in -30 degree temperatures and started right up come spring. The winter car was left outside in +30 degree weather and started right up come fall. The only time I had a dead battery was the first trip I took my Mk7 R to the drive in - I left it in accessory mode for the stereo but didn't realize that in the accessory mode, all the sensors and radars also turned on which ended up draining the battery. Jumped it with a booster pack and had no issues since.

Never had to replace a battery, never had to replace brakes, never had to replace a clutch and only had worn out tires once. Even on my current Mk7 Alltrack, its pushing 90000kms and the brakes are still over 70%, both winter and summer tires are about 80%.

My Loake shoes may need to go back, one needs to be made higher. :( I know they will do it.

Nothing wrong with the shoes, it’s my leg has healed slightly shorter.

Have you thought about Trickers or Crockett & Jones instead of Loake? I bought a pair of Loakes a few years back, they did not last long, a couple of winters and they were toast, it just wasn't worth getting them resoled.

This one makes me laugh, I've got Jarlsberg in my fridge that's made in Ireland, and Jarlsberg cheese made in Elnesvågen which is 30km from my house. The Irish Jarlsberg is shredded, I can't taste the difference. The best Norwegian cheese is Østavind, if you ever see it buy it, if you like Yarlsberg you'll love Østavind!

Mine are from back in 2016, still look fine. I’m careful with them. If it’s raining or looks like it will I’ll wear normal joggers instead.

Thanks for the cheese recommendation - I do like Jarlsberg. Will try the other brand if I can find it here.

Jarlsberg is an old favourite of mine too… but here in rural NSW, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find! I especially miss the little round cheeses in the net: just perfect for lunches at work but totally gone now!

How many years do you keep a car? Five years is about it for a battery. I never changed a clutch either four cars all over 125,000 miles each

4 to 5 years - 80000 to 120000kms on average.

VW was having an issue for the last few years where batteries needed to be replaced after about a year - not sure if it was a defective batch or something, but mine never did so I did dodge the bullet on that one. Key fob batteries is another thing though, my last 2 VWs have had the keyless entry/start and proximity unlock, so obviously the key fob is constantly looking for the car, so that battery drains within a year.

Don't really know if its "brand" loyalty, but I try to stick with the same hairstylist for as long as I can. The current one I've been going to for the last couple of years is simply phenomenal, does a really great job and the head/neck massage she gives - Good Lord!

B&M baked in Portland, ME, USA, far superior.

My friends, I'll leave all those baked beans to y'all. So if there should be a supply chain of Heinz Baked Beans I won't be the one responsible.
Some of brand loyalties:

Cruises: Carnival and MSC
Cars: Subaru, Toyota and Honda
Kitty Litter: Feline Pine
Kitty cleaner/disinfectant: Natures Choice/Miracle red bottle
Dishwashing Hand Soap: Dawn Foam
Auto Dishwasher detergent.... Cascade PLATINUM pillow pods. I swear this stuff reminds me of the good old days when dishwasher detergent were loaded with phosphates. Great cleaning and I don't pre-rinse.
Mobile 1 Synthetic Oil, Castrol also good.
Shave Cream...Believe it or not Target Up and Up for sensitive skin. Performs as well if not better than the pricier main brands.
Burgers: Five Guys
Reasonable priced niche grocer...Trader Joes.
Like Whole Foods but as we call it Whole Paycheck, I'm not in that tax bracket.
Retail: Amazon Prime and of course Kindle Unlimited.
Soda: Coke or almost any brand depending on price but regular not 1 calorie or cleanser tasting diet soda.

I'll come up with more.

My and my family but Kirkland batteries from Costco. They are inexpensive and consumer reviews rate them highly.

You have to know how to install them as they won't do it for you.

Streaming Service (paid): Spotify Honorable mention Prime Music (for sound quality) Spotify for general ease of use and selections. No Taylor Swift, show tunes or boy bands in my playlists lots of oldies many obscure. If money/inflation were not an issue I'd pony up for You Tube premium I despise those intrusive ads especially the one for Tick Tock.

I went to safety razors about 10 years ago - bought a 100 blade sample pack of various manufacturers like Derby, Treet, Astra, Feather, etc. Still have about 20 left - not sure which one I like the best. Air travel with a safety razor is pretty much impossible without checking luggage in, so for trips I usually carry a Bic cartridge razor - I find them just as good as Gillette for a bit less money.

I wish manufacturers would bring back the key charging slot in the dash we had this in a Mercedes, Volvo, BMW and 2 MINI's, with our newer cars with keyless entry I'm forever changing batteries in the key.

How often do you change AV receivers? I have a home cinema and have changed receivers twice in 16 years, the first was a Yamaha, when I bought new speakers it shit itself, and was replaced by a Denon 2 years ago.

I agree. Also, the contact point where one holds the key to start the car if you have a weak battery seems to have moved with the new Golf as well - used to be on the steering column but now for some bizarre reason its right in the cup holder.

I used to use Barilla quite a bit, but I find it sticks quite a bit.

Peanut butter is another one, Kraft and only Kraft. Chocolate spread, used to be Nutella - I grew up on it and been swearing by it for my entire life, but Kraft came out with one just a couple of years ago and I have to say, its actually quite a bit better.

It's in the cup holder on the Chevrolet Malibu too. Have had to use that trick twice in the four years I've had my Malibu. These new key fobs that sense your presence are amazing, you touch the doorhandle and it unlocks, no need to fumble with putting keys in the ignition, but they are rough on batteries. Previous remote entry batteries (the ones had a button to unlock the door but still had a key for the ignition) lasted years. I only remember changing one once, and that was after six or seven years of daily use. The new ones seem to be two or three years, based on my unscientific anecdotal survey. Perhaps it's the key fob constantly pinging the electronic equivalent of 'I'm here' to the receiver in the car.

Hey guys,
One I just remembered ....
Watches: Casio G-shock, metal band and casing. I've tried many different brands and with the exception of a TAG Hauer that I loved (and lost in tragic circumstances) I wouldn't buy any again except the G-Shock.
Plus, I just did a massive Christmas shop which reinforced my loyalty to Calvin Klein for jocks, Rodd and Gunn for socks, Ben Sherman for shirts and Levi's for jeans. Love all those brands, especially when I can get them dirt cheap at their factory outlet shops in Sydney!
Take care,

Yup, keyless entry/start fobs are transmitters that are constantly looking for the car hence the batteries drain quickly. Mine need to be replaced about once a year, and I always do the spare at the same time since even though I never use it, the battery drains itself because the fob is always looking for the car. They make stealing a car so much easier as well, thieves can stand outside of your house, pick up your keys signal, reprogram their fob and off they go with your car in under a minute.

Ketchup: Heinz or Del Monte

Mayonnaise: Duke's or Best Foods / Hellman's (for my overseas readers: Best Foods is the brand name west of the Mississippi River, Hellman's east of the river. I have no idea why. Same company, same recipe.)

Butter: Challenge or Trader Joe's, but even a good store brand is fine.

Cars: been partial to GM until they started shipping vehicles with stuff "we will install at the dealer some time in the future". Now, I get complete cars; my present ride is a Subaru Ascent. Five weeks from order to delivery.

Major appliances: LG for washer, dryer; fridge I prefer Whirlpool; stoves (cookers) I have an LG induction, but am open to Frigidaire and Whirlpool. Dishwasher: Bosch.

Entertainment: Onkyo receivers but am open to Yamaha or others. TVs: LG. Speakers: I am on a budget, and so just have Polk Audio, but to my 73 year old ears, they do a very fine job.

Computers: was on Windows until it went from an operating system to ad-ware. I moved over to Mac; my needs since retirement are relatively simple, so they do just fine and I'm not pestered to try Office 265 every time I boot up, or other such clutter. I keep a Windows 10 miniature computer around for some tasks I find easier. To Linux users: yes, it is incredible, but it also has software I have no clue how to use. Gimp being one. I need something easy to use.

Mobile phone: Using an iPhone at the moment, but am agnostic on operating systems. In the Android world I liked LG but they are out of that market now. So, I am open to most brands but ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to buy another Samsung. Been there, done that. When I pay a premium for a phone, I do not want pop-up ads in middle of composing an email, being constantly badgered to sign up for this or that Samsung product or service, or video ads that self-start in middle of the night. (No, it was not my carrier, it was the phones.)

Home Automation: I am presently using a Hubitat Elevation, and it "talks to" Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, and also - via a Lutron hub - Lutron lighting controls and dimmers. I have a few wi-fi items (ecoBee thermostat. MyQ garage door controls, Ring doobell) that also "talk to" the Hubitat. The learning curve for rules and scripts was a tad bit steep, but I am doing fine with it. (If any of you have other hubs that are losing functionality this next year, Hubitat is well worth considering, and the user forum people are VERY patient and helpful. Note for Apple HomeKit users: Hubitat i now compatible.)

Hey guys,
I just extended my brand loyalty for Apple products by buying an Apple TV 4K and it’s brilliant! Highly recommend…. Plus, I recently obtained the latest iPad to replace an older one and it’s awesome as well. So much faster and better quality screen. Love Apple! Will probably upgrade my iPhone in the next few months.
However my brand loyalty to Netflix has been severed. Fed up with issues with them.

Apple's products are top notch. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've had my MacBook Pro going on 8 years and its been flawless, but I did end up having to replace it a couple of months ago because silly me, I left a pen on the keyboard as I closed it and 'effed up the screen. It still works fine other than the screen, so I just have it hooked up to an external monitor to use as a quasi desktop. Went to the Apple Store and ended up buying a new M2 MacBook Pro - great machine - expensive, but one of the few things in life worth spending the extra $$$ on.

Hey ACDC8,
A work colleague of mine did exactly the same with her brand new MacBook Pro, the day she got it! She hadn’t closed it properly when she put it into her bag and a stray pen in her bag got caught between the keyboard and screen. She felt the laptop open slightly as she put her bag over her shoulder so she instinctly reached in without looking and shut it…. Needless to say, she was very upset as she entered my office for help at that point!
Good luck with yours.
Take care
