Ahh, he was the "villain" Power Ranger.
As was mentioned on the thread when Dustin Diamond passed, it's the early Millenial's turn to start realizing we are not on this Earth forever.

I’m aging myself here but wasn’t he was only the villain in one multi-episode arc where he was possessed or something. Or have I forgotten the origin story?

He was only the villain initially in the "Green With Evil" saga. The Rangers then broke the spell from Rita and he joined the Rangers as the Green Ranger. Rita then took away the Green Ranger powers later on. Tommy later came back in the second season as the White Ranger and would take over as leader. In Power Rangers Zeo, he would become the Red Zeo Ranger, and then in the first half of Power Rangers Turbo he woukd become the Red Turbo Ranger. He would later come back many years later as the Black Dino Ranger.
