Changes in 2023

Wed Dec 28, 2022 12:02 am

That time of year again. I used to have this annual thread on things you want to disappear in the new year. Now, just what change (s) you'd like to see in 2023. I'll keep it simple.

Protect our infra structure. Water, power and electronic grids to name a few. I do hope this new nuclear fusion (not sure exactly) comes closer to fruition.
I'm also hoping we make strides with supersonic or hypersonic commercial travel.

I would like to see carbon emissions continue to drop and have that rate increase. This could limit warming in 2100 to 2 degrees Celsius or ideally 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre industrial averages. On top of this, I would like to see the Empire State Building return to it's 8 am to 2 am operating hours that were seen pre pandemic by next summer, along with the COVID-19 vaccination mandate for Observatory hosts lifted. Furthermore, I would like to see wild polio eradicated from the face of the Earth. Also hope to see the admission fee for the Empire State Building that is currently $44 reduced to $20. On top of this, I would like to see the TRE commuter rail between Dallas and Fort Worth run 365 days a year.

I really want to see Tim Tok go away. Not because of the political stuff but because it rots kids brains. Keeps them lazy and unemployed. Not a good combo.

Not only that but teens seem to think they all can make money from it. Obviously most don't understand supply/demand, but this app's popularity with that age group doesn't help.

My GF’s son thought he was going to support himself making YT and Tik Tok vids. I told him unless your name is Scottie Kilmer you better get a job. OMG was his vids brutal.

I believe I agree with NIKV69 for the first time!
Tik Tok is but the worst offender, though, it is a jungle of digital services with nothing better to do than giving us exactly enough dopamine kick to make us stay longer and longer and spend more and more. It got to be dealt with.

TikTok is bad yet having TikTok disappear won't prevent another app from popping up. It have been continuous waves since Facebook appear, each more addicting and trained to attract people the most in shortest time frame. And constantly sort out content human brain want to see no matter their content. I would like to see more studies on their effects on human brain in order to understand what are viable steps that can be taken to draw the line between normal content distribution and those that are aim to get people addicted.

I just want to see people getting off their social media soap boxes and just accept that others have different views and realize despite that, we can still all get along.

I'm just about done with Facebook because of that, some "friends" have taken their political viewpoints to a level nearing obsession.

I have managed to keep Tik Tok off of my social media devices, and my kids can't install anything without my permission, so life is good there. I am sure they have freinds that they have seen Tik Tok, but i won't allow them to sit on it.

You tube is a love hate. There are some really good things there, especially for handi work around the house, but some of it is mind numbing garbage.

I think my real 2023 hope is that people become more aware of all of their media feeds, and the agendas driving them. The recent fox news depositions for the Dominion lawsuit ,Jan 6 depositions, and the Alex Jones trials are true hightlights that under oath, people say things differently than they profess on TV/Internet/Radio

What I want going away are parents who use electronic devices as pacifiers. They are your children for Heaven sake. Talk with thrm. Nurture them. That is your responsibility, not Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Hey, I know Tim Tok, he's a stand-up guy.

...

...oh, TikTok. Yeah it's a good way to amuse yourself for thirty seconds but pretty dubious as a career choice.

*an end to the war in the Ukraine and the rightful outcome, Russians being expelled from all Ukrainian sovereign territory and all Ukrainian citizens returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity. I’ll accept the truly just outcome, Russia paying reparations and Putin in the ICC dock will never happen, but for the war to just end with Russians occupying large swathes of Ukraine is an outcome no sane person would want.

Entitled? To what? I have worked for everything I have. The entitled are the Millennials who feel they don't have to get a regular job and think tik tok will get them a steady salary for posting videos of the most inane things. I mean at least have some content that is useful.

Millennials are actually aged 26-41 at the moment.

It’s Gen Z who are supposedly TikTok obsessed, and they don’t think TikTok will provide them a regular salary. As far as I can see they’re still enrolling in university and higher education to get skills and qualifications for “regular” jobs. And if there are some people who can make a living from social media, good on them. It shows ingenuity and dedication, and it’s not just limited to Gen Z.

Your post just seems like young people bashing tbh.

I am Gen X, it seems Millenials, Z and Alpha are all tik tok obsessed. Again thinking it will bring them a living. Only people I am bashing are those that refuse to get a job and go to work on a regular basis.

Influencers do make a living. But to get it is just nonsense. Sell everything you believe in to whatever company or brand needs your influence. No thanks. I don’t like social media at all (even though I know it from my job). But some of them do make a very good living and have heaps of money which they invest carefully.

I even dislike forums quite a bit (I post very little here).

You can lay off on the millennials though, I’ve employed a number of them who were extremely hard working, going far and beyond what you’d expect to get an impossible deadline met.

Even among your generation there are those who are lazy and though they have a real job, they spend all day bludging, socialising (oops, I mean networking) or doing coffee runs. I have no time for that.

A whole lot of things, firstly that parents take more responsibility for their children and their upbringing. Educate people were their food comes from and what is involved in getting it to the table. A greater value attached to human life.
And a whole planet load of other things. ;)

World leaders realizing we're all on this planet together, so might as well try to get along.

I was hoping the pandemic would be that wake up call, but nope, they're still on the same old BS.

Millennials? NIKV69 has to realized that most of us are in 30s if not 40s and are definitely not Gen Z.

By next presidential election, something like half of millennials can literally become POTUS for god sake. The millennials would be the first generation YTers who either already quit (b/c they can't make it), made a lot of money and is half retired (i.e. PewDiePie)...giving ways to the newer generation.

Oh, and most of us don't even use that Chinese spy app call TikTok...those are the Gen Z and beyond.
===============================
As far as something I want to see in 2023:
    Boeing 797 being reveal
Wars being stopped, especially Ukraine with Russia getting their behind kicked back to Siberia and beyond
TikTok finally getting banned in western countries...yes something else will replace it but what a freaking stupid app
Crime level decreasing in USA, and urban area getting back to resurgence rather than decline

it's not much different from the people of NikV's generation who go missing for large portions of the day or take off early each day. They seem to be entitled to think that's okay. Only difference is they don't put it on social media. Or for that matter the types who come in and spend the first 30 minutes talking about the happenings on the previous day's reality TV show, then ooh, let's get a coffee.

Grrr. And these are not young workers either.

You are doing exactly as I expected.

Instead of trying to "get a job and go to work on a regular basis," us Millenials and GenZ folks actually want to do fulfilling jobs and make our dreams come true. Unlike your generation, we don't honor the tradition working some mundane job with a toxic work culture that drains us every day. We want to enjoy what we are doing. We are not afraid to break the outdated norms. At the workplace, we value good work-life balance, mental and physical health, and a salary that gives us a chance to cover the insane living costs. No more grueling labor the pays a trash wage with poor working conditions and zero PTO.

We actually worked our butts off in school and college, doing AP class after AP class, pulling all nighters, and many of us even worked while going to school. Now we spend years trying to pay off student loans and debt.

We deserve to have pretty darn good and fulfilling lives afterwards. And its not like we owe GenX and Boomers anything. All they gave us were pandemics, wars, conspiracy theories, violence, global warming, religious extremism etc.

GenZ and Millenials will be the ones who save our planet, bring peace to this world, and advance science among other things.
We've put up with the problems that GenX/Boomers gave us, and yet your generation somehow has the audacity to say that we are the spoiled and lazy ones?

Sorry, but y'all are just making fools out of yourselves.

Secondly, not clear why you think it will be handed to you.
