What a scary one...a guy making an early AM drive thru stop in Auburn WA tried to grab and possibly kidnap a barista working alone. Video footage showed him try to pull her into his truck through the window. Luckily he was arrested just hours later - scant details beyond that.

1. Women should not be working alone serving the public unless adequate security is available

2. Security camera resolution in some locations seems to still be quite poor. Many people have HD cams at home and in their cars.

Men are victims of violent crimes and homicide at MUCH higher rates than women. Like its not even close.

Does a woman working alone has a higher probability of being the victim of a crime than a man?

How many innocent males working alone at convenience stores have been killed in LA and other cities over the past several years?

Perception matters - men do not generally have the inkling they will be violent crime victims at work, unless the location is as you describe at a store in a shitty area.

Women generally feel more at risk due to both physical size and who tends to be targeted by random crazies. As employers, it’s incumbent on us to respond to such perceptions and provide an appropriately safe work environment.

Also, I’ve seen the data. A few years ago, I attended a symposium on workplace safety and the responses of surveyed male and female employees on whether employers were addressing personal safety were not remotely close.

The panic button and metal doors are
good precautions. Bikini-clad should have no bearing on whether someone gets attacked at work or not.

Glad they caught him but honestly, what makes anyone think they can drag an adult up and through a takeout window, across the gap, and into the vehicle? It looked like an impulse "crime of opportunity" that only somebody completely kookoo crazy would try.
