Yet another school shooting

Tue Mar 28, 2023 1:34 am

Here we go again, the do nothing attitude towards mass shootings. Six dead in a school shooting at a private Christian School. 3 children, 3 adults.

A red state in the USofA. Nothing I can say or do will change anything, so I'm indifferent.

But still, thoughts and prayers and all that.

The shooter is a former student who, in addition to killing kids, just offered a healthy serving of red meat to the right wing culture war crowd. Ridiculous

Sadly, I agree.

If nothing happened after Sandy Hook, nothing will ever happen, or at least not for several generations.

These are also issues that require multigenerational political focus to really make a dent, and that aint happening either.

Sadly, after reading the article you know exactly what spin the "its not the guns fault" right wing fanatic crowd is going to to use.

No, the third para is quite clear what they think the issue is.

Perhaps in the near future A.I. can re-direct these gun shootings toward the 'armed to the teeth' types who don't give a damn about the increasing slaughter of kids in this country. let the gun nut 'from my cold dead hands' crowd feel some personal tragedy such as the woman who interrupted the news reporters, on vacation who had personally experienced and escaped a mass shooting only to experience another on vacation.

That woman's norm needs to be felt by all those who cannot and do not get it. THAT will make them 'get it'.
This goes for every controversial issue affecting society.
All who dismiss the sincerity of such social ills as sexism, racism, LBTQ hatred, Anti-Semite hate, child abuse, etc...need a dose of those realirties in some form in
order to 'get it'...

You felt the news anchors tearing up as their kids text'd them from the shooting in real time while on the air ...this is pure insanity!

Retarded adults losing it over David, a freakin' statue, losing it over drag queens...these people are abnormal and they contribute nothing to
society other than misery.

Come for the guns because it is only getting worse.

It was at a christian school, they had enough prayers I guess... seems like praying does not help. And looking at the frequency of these events, a lot of thoughts are also not put into a solution.

Unlike what happened in Uvalde, the police were able (and willing) to engage the shooter quickly. Still took them 14 minutes. Lucky that more people weren't killed. As I've always said, when seconds count the police are minutes (or hours) away.

Transgender person who attacks a Christian school? Wonder if this will qualify as domestic terrorism.

How come so many of these shootings are done by trans people? Including the one at that gay nightclub.

Define “so many” in the context of the history of American mass shootings.

Sounds awfully like an agenda to me.

That the alleged shooter in this case is a Female identifying Trans, attacked a 'Christian' school they attended years ago, believed that at least 2 of the guns were obtained legal makes this case confusing for those who are against more gun regulations and those who hate Trans identification.

Did the other 99.9999% of conservative white shooters with manifestos that read like a Tucker monologue get charged as domestic terrorism?

He was not trans, his lawyer said he was nonbinary well after the shooting. He had never identified as such before and was virulently anti LGBTQ. Nonethless "trans" shootings are something like 0.0004% of mass shootings. Wanna guess what the balance is?

Thankfully it's not complicated for the left. It's the guns. Fewer guns = fewer gun deaths, regardless of who the shooter or victim are.

More Guns = More deaths.

3 guns brought in. 6 killed by the assailent. 1 Assailent shot and killed by the police.

Good article summing it up
https://www.thedailybeast.com/nashville ... udrey-hale
A search of Hale’s home turned up “maps drawn of the school, in detail, so, surveillance, entry points, et cetera,” Drake said, as well as a “manifesto” and “some writings that pertain to this date, the actual incident... of how this was all going to take place.” Inside a Honda Fit that Hale drove and parked at the school campus Friday morning, cops found “additional material written by Hale,” police said in a tweet.

It appears Mar 27 was specifically important to the assailent to attack and that they were specifically targeting the school

Ex teamate got a call about a suicide. Tried to reach out for help, but it was all too late and delayed .

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/nashvi ... cf973f58ac
Averianna Patton said she saw a message on her phone that Hale had sent to her on Instagram Monday morning that stated Hale was planning to die by suicide and that she would see it on the news. A screenshot of a message published by WTVF appeared to show that the message was sent at 9:57 a.m. local time.

"One day this will make more sense," Hale wrote. "I've left behind more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen," the message stated.

"I tried to comfort and encourage her and subsequently reached out to the Suicide Prevention Help Line after being instructed to by my father at 10:08 a.m.," Patton said.

Patton told WTVF that she she called the Nashville Davidson County Sheriff's Office at 10:13 a.m. to make them aware of the situation and was instructed to call Nashville's non-emergency number.

"I called Nashville's non-emergency line at 10:14 a.m. and was on hold for nearly seven minutes before speaking with someone who said that they would send an officer to my home. An officer did not come to my home until 3:29 p.m.," Patton said.

A whole lot of hate , anger , and resentment. Coupled with access to guns and 6 innocent people are dead.

Well this one case kinda sums up the problems leading into the shooting.

A kid goes to a christian school. Has a bad experience. Is Angty about it. Has mental issues. Has suicidal thoughts, and Homicidal ones as well.
On top of it all they have access to Guns, Social Media

So where do you start? To me, the biggest issue is the Guns at the point we got too, but somewhere along the line, Mental health wasn't addressed.

As a foreign observer too, what I can see is it's a combination of availability of guns plus mental illness plaguing that country.

The rift in politics and everything related to it, along with above mentioned issues, is turning people against each other violently.

Well It appears that the most recent 4 school shooters (Uvalde, Michigan State, Denver and now Nashville) were all perpetrated by non-white individuals.

So white males aren't the only crazy ones here in the ol' USA.

There is zero excuse for shootings. After mental health issues, what are the reasons for mass shootings? El Paso and Buffalo and Charleston and Pittsburgh have a clear second reason.

There is no excuse. No one in their right mind shoots (stabs/bludgeons/etc) someone who isn't a direct deadly threat to them. And you are mentally ill if you think innocent people are some threat to you.

Where guns are not readily available in other countries, or, for other reasons, when they want to commit murder/suicide over there, they use bombs.

A person ready to die, is hard to prevent. We'll have to see what she said in her manifesto.

Nope -

"Nevertheless, by these measures, some global patterns are clear: The most religious countries are in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Latin America, while people generally are less religious in Europe, North America, East Asia and Australia"

Not in anywhere near the rate we see here, probably by a factor of at least ten. But we know you probably think math is woke and want it canceled.

Thank gawd conservatives have ensured every psycho, lunatic, domestic abuser, and mentally ill people are “good guys with guns” and have unimpeded access to weapons of war.

Wrong again. If you're going to argue, at least know one or two facts first. They were born a female and were transgender. Looking at pictures of Audrey, it's obvious that they identified as male. So she had evangelical Christian parents who sent her to this school and still won't accept that Audrey is different than what they want to believe.

Unlike what happened in Uvalde, the police were able (and willing) to engage the shooter quickly. Still took them 14 minutes. Lucky that more people weren't killed. As I've always said, when seconds count the police are minutes (or hours) away.

Inference here being that you’d rather live in a society that has always had armed police seconds away, watching, ready, wherever anyone is at any time. How dystopian is that?

I would imagine there are plenty of East German ex-Stasi members who can help out with that. They may be getting a bit decrepit but at least they would be a “good guy with a gun” on hand when you need them.

Unless I've dramatically misunderstood the thrust of all their prior arguments, that isn't what TriJets is saying; rather, you have to be able to defend yourself with a gun because someone with a gun could be right around the corner at this very minute to do you great harm. I find this argument rather tautological, when taken in its totality, but there's no denying that a lot of people in the United States feel this way.

Thank gawd conservatives have ensured every psycho, lunatic, domestic abuser, and mentally ill people are “good guys with guns” and have unimpeded access to weapons of war.

The US needs to make it much more difficult for people with mental illness to purchase a gun. At least in this case, her parents tried to keep weapons away from her unlike other instances where the parents bought weapons for their kids. But this person was hardly a kid at 28 years old.

We may have to pull back some of the HIPAA privacy protections put in place during the AIDS crisis and allow the government more information on who is undergoing mental health treatment.(Think of the suicides it may prevent) Was Hale's doctor under any requirement to report her condition now?

Purchase any gun and the seller (including at gun shows and private individuals) has to check that data base or face prosecution. I don't own a gun so I'm not sure how you would implement that.

Makes sense, but is it allowed under 2A.

Incidentally, something I have always wondered.

Presumably prison inmates aren't allowed to bear arms.

How does that work with the constitutional right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Are they excluded in 2A.
