Legendary running back Jim Brown dead at 87

In my opinion, Mr. Brown had to be one of, if not, the most impactful players next to Walter Payton.

This is a huge loss for not only the sports community, but the world.

You would be correct. A class act off the field as well. RIP.

Absolute monster to tackle, no way I’d want to be in front of him. Go the Brownies…

It's interesting to me how many of us still around never did see him play, yet it's clear that as you say it is a huge loss to the sports community.

His last game was in 1965 so you probably have to be in your 70s to remember his playing days, but he did make an impact on younger people via his acting roles and his generosity shown by giving many interviews to journalists and book authors.

Even Walter Payton isn't remembered too well in the current era. I remember him because he was part of the '85 Bears that rolled over my Patriots in the Super Bowl that year. I was a university student back then. People younger than their 50s probably didn't see him play.

That's the way it goes. Each generation's heroes die off, typically with younger people not really understanding why those people had an impact on their elders.

Born in Georgia and played for Syracuse University (unlikely you'd ever see that happen in this day and age with a player that talented). I remember visiting a high school friend at Syracuse back in the mid-80s and walking past Jim's freshmen dorm room was a tour highlight. Interesting factoid from Wiki - he was also considered one of the best lacrosse players of all time. I wish there was footage of that lying around somewhere.

A nice homage to his NFL a career: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbRoQ1cZDXo

I guess as long as you weren't one of the women he admitted hitting. He even blamed hitting his wife on her PMS.

Yeah. Beating your wife and girlfriends is a real class act.
