ScottysAir, I doubt Henks could help the downtime. It is sometimes nessecary to have downtime to carry out precious upgrades and maintenence. The downtime will help us to enjoy A.net with fewer crashes and so on. I also think that time away from A.net is nice, as most people seem to spend most of their life on A.net.

When a scheduled downtime is about to happen, could you post a notice of it at the top of the site home page, like in a special banner, to let us know? I thought maybe the site crashed or something wrong at my end.

No, it did not make crash with the a.net forum and it should be not have anything problem at all.

LTBEWR, there was a notice on the front page, only problem was it wasn't accurate. But we were still warned about it. Congratulations to Henks btw on this work!! I think the downtime was just for the better and not for the worst!

Okay, I am reading it now when everything is alright again! Big grin And I was already getting ready to buy black roses for Henks because of the sad hard drive crash Airliners.net had... LOL. Sorry, but I was just worrying, because I didnt know whats going on and Airliners.net has never been down so long in my memory. Ofcourse its not your fault, but mine, I should check this forum sometimes as well.

It was only due to a private email from another a.net user whom I had corresponded with before that I knew something was wrong with site...she asked if it was only her or others had same issue...I NEVER saw ANY message about this before downtime...

I have direct bookmarks to non-av forum and civil-av forums and those are only two forums that i normally look at...only on very rare occasions do I go to the home page or this forum...so any warnings there would NOT have been seen by users like myself...

In future, i would suggest that a thread be put in EACH forum that would be kept at top or close to it when downtime of over 4 hrs is needed...and/or put it as a "ad" that we would see...

and a simple "site is down for maint" type page using another service be swapped in place during downtime so it doesn't look like site just vanished!

It's a GREAT site! Just was caught off-guard due to way I use site...

Sorry, I agree we should be better to inform about downtime in the future. I did post a message in Site Related and on the frontpage of Airliners.net. However, that post in Site Related could have been linked from the top of all discussion forums. I will do that next time.

Thanks,
Johan

Was it off again today? Couldn't access between 13:30 - 14:30 and the keyword search is down.

Hi,

We are working on one of our database servers. Advanced searches (forum search and photography advanced search) and some other smaller functions might be unavailable today.
