We're Moving! Airliners.net Downtime

Fri Jul 07, 2006 9:53 pm

Hi all,

Airliners.net is moving from the University area to the central part of Luleå close to my apartment (in the same building actually). We have a new serverroom and a 100MBit dedicated connection provided by the ISP Tele2.

This is a major change and I cannot honestly say how long the move will take. We'll start tonight with two sql-slave servers that the site should be able to function without. Then tomorrow (Saturday July 8th) we will take down the site and move the rest of the servers. The site will be down for a few hours, hopefully all will go well and we'll be up and running again after a downtime of 4-6 hours.

Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. It is a step to improve the uptime of the site with a more reliable internet connection.

Best Regards,
Johan

You beat me to it EI787! Another site I'm a member of (and which shall remain nameless) always gives advance notice of downtime in a blurb on the homepage, with approximate times for US, Europe, Australia, etc.

This happened a couple of weeks ago here and I didn't know what was going on, nor when it would be back up.

Not everyone vists SR, and I only look in occasionally myself.

Johan ... change is good ... especially if this awesome website will be improved. A few hours without a.net? Better than NO a.net.

https://airliners.net/ works for me.
http://www2.airliners.net/ is a redirect from www, so I assume it will be cleaned up later on.

If you get the www2 server, your DNS records are still using the old IP address of Airliners.net. When the change has propagated through the Internet, you'll get the normal www address again.

Please note that things will be quite slow as long as you're seeing the address www2.airliners.net. When your DNS is updated, things will be back to normal speed.

Should I be worried that I uploaded 2 photos today, but they are not showing up in my queue? BTW I am still getting the www2 address if that might make a difference. Thanks.

Also, when I open photos to view them Large they are crooked in the way that i say %20 etc. instead of spaces.
Is that also part of the "www2."?

I'm seeing a problem. I uploaded 2 photos and the confirmation page indicated it was ok, but the photos are not showing in the queue on "my photos" section and are not reflected in the count of # of photos I have in the queue. Do I need to upload them again, or are they there and just not showing up?
