BA Bashing Threads Annoying

Mon Jul 24, 2006 5:44 pm

A few users are posting BA bashing threads constantly. I dont moan at all about this site, it is great, but these are really getting on my nerves as it is quite often just pure opinion and false facts. One member has posted nearly six negative threads on BA. One has been deleted yet he still won't take the hint. Now many other BA Bashers are starting threads and the Civ. Av forum is littered with around ten of these irritating threads. It is beginning to ruin this site.
Anyone else feel this way?

I'm fed up of these threads too. Especially when the people who post these threads don't think thing through first, and give us misleading facts. Why one certain member hasn't been banned is beyond me.

Well its clear that member has some sort of grievance - not just with BA, but also LHr, BAA, etc - funnily enough all the things that Ryanair usually complain about......  scratchchin

Constructive criticism of BA is welcome - as with all airlines, even if there was some bashing of other airlines then at least that would be something, but it seems BA is the only target - to the extent that it really ios obvious that there is some agenda there, whether working for another airline, rejected for a job or refused boarding or something of that nature.....

I too an fed up with these threads, BA isn't a perfect airline ,no airline is, but some users seem to have a real problem with BA, I don't know why, but they do, I don't see many VS bashing threads at the moment, or FR bashing threads, but hey, everyone has their opinion, And that's fine by me, it only annoys me when the post(s) are filled with utter rubbish, very few or no facts, just pure bashing.

It wouldn't supise me , that much, if he was.

Oh we've had plenty of those in the past. These things go through cycles and another airline will get its fair share next.

However when it is primarily one person starting up these threads or inflaming them then its a different matter......

If its the same user as I think it is, he is also posting across forums (external to a.net), using external forum users posts in full (he has denied any link with the user, yet several of his threads are exactly the same and he has posted cut and pastes without acknowledgement) and he has used deliberately inflammatory wording.

Its getting tiring to say the least.

It is not only the BA bashing threads that are annoying, some of the recent threads make me think that I have entered a school playground rather than a.net, bearing in mind the garbage that some people have been posting recently. Just take a look at 'Why is British Airways Falling So Fast" thread for a good example of, sorry for the word, ignorance. It is a waste of band space and without any substance, and it is pointless replying. Where have all the good debates and good posters gone? Some of the recent comments posted make me laugh!

Funny how constant AC, LH, KL, FR bashing is accepted and treated as a sport, yet when another airline comes its considered blasphemy.

While I don't agree with a certain members conduct against BA/LHR etc. I also don't agree with the constant anti-AC crap in this thread .... BA 747-400 (3 Of Them In YVR In One Day) (by Ktachiya Jul 22 2006 in Civil Aviation)

If you get offended by peoples negative opinions/remarks on a certain carrier, please, don't sink to the same level and tear at other carriers.

Did I say its false advertising? No, you can bet that every one of those statements made has figures to back it up - its trivial to make sure a test shows the answers you want, if you set out to make it so.

Want me to run out to my workshop and throw together a gas turbine engine thats 'more efficient than the RR Trent 1000, and the GEnx by greater than 10%'? It can be done, I can show test results for greater efficiency in all areas! The question is - how is it measured? And thats how advertising works.

Shampoo, cars, toilet tissue, tampons, beer, porn sites, they are all measured by their own companies and thats how they can all claim better performance in their adverts.

If you blindly believe what those adverts say, you are quite frankly a sheep thats waiting to be guided.

You're certainly entitled to have a negative opinion of BA. I know just as well as anyone that there are many, many people who quite justly have a very low opinion of BA. There are many things the airline has done that I have been quite ashamed of.

However, expressing a negative opinion on BA or any airline/company/country/animal etc does not necessitate spamming a forum with multiple, repetitive threads. If the threads contained different facts or opinions, you would probably still get flamed by BA fanboys, but you would nevertheless have a strong argument in your favour. Making a number of threads essentially going over and over the same facts (opinions?) is tiresome and a waste of bandwidth.

If you have a legitimate grievance with BA or even the finest country in the world, the UK, it disappears into the parody that you are setting yourself up as. I have no doubt that this is intentional in which case I applaud your success.

I do not have a specific grievance with BA.
It's just the arrogant attitude that many of you have with regards to BA that needs to change. The ratio of BA posts on this forum to other airlines is way out of balance. In other words, BA is allowed many more than others and I believe this is where the moderators are manipulating things.

With regards to the kingdom, in your misjudgement as to the finest country, you must have not discovered others. As one example, I would find it a lot more expensive to fly my Cessna in your country than the one in which I live now. There is a great big world out there to discover my friend.

Quite right. Unfortunately, it seems that one queer individual is responsible for the flood of recent BA threads. Otherwise, BA probably receives a proportionate amount of threads that an airline of its size and importance deserves and also considering the quite large number of UK based a.net members. It is by no means out of proportion when compared to FR, AA, UA, CO, EK etc, and certainly not when compared to the attention that small airlines like B6 and VS receive.

Heh! The cost of flying a Cessna doth not a great country make.

However, I do believe that an aviation forum is perhaps not the ideal place to debate the comparative 'greatness' of one country compared to another.

Regrettably, BA787 has been banned now for reacting to BOE773's inflammatory posts, yet no action, that I am aware of, has been taken against this guy, who is clearly and deliberately trying to start arguments.

Damn right - and nobody is disagreeing.

I'm not a particualr BA fan - I have plenty of issues with the airline, likewise BAA or LHR.

But the user is just posting flamebait and nothing more - if he could actually provide some proper reasoned argument and discussion points it might be different - but he doesn't.

posting a thread called "World's worst arport for delays" and then telling everyone how much he hates LHR - the moment anyone else starts talking about other airports that have delay problems, even when they are not sticking up for LHR, he whinges that this is off thread - showing all he really wants to do is bash LHR.

Lets put it this way if he started up something like 15 threads doing nothing but slag off Continental, Cleveland, Ohio and the US in general you'd be pretty pissed with him too.

I don't have a problem with healthy criticism - i enocurage debate on it for sure, and I'm honest enough to admit there is plenty we need to sort out in this country and with our airlines, but his thread come across as nothing but a dislike of the UK - nothing to to do with BA or anything else. That's fine if that is his viewpoint - but such views on the UK should be directed into Non-aviation. Incorrect info, opinion and items lifted out of context have no place in Civ.Av - even if it already is full of it.

E-mail (do not post) the mods what rules he has repeatedly broken and we will consider it.

Then you mods better respond to our emails. Personally, I find it frustrating having my questions falling on deaf ears.

Get some lives folks. It's an airline, not your imaginary girlfriend. If you're taking people's opinions this seriousely, you need another outlet apart from this hobby to give you some perspective on life.

I can only find two emails from you in my inbox, where I've got a record of every email that comes through on the moderator email list. One is from May 2006 and the other from March 2005. Both received a response. If there is another one which has been missed out, please send it again - we may have missed out on a few emails during the period after the server move when some changes were being made. I believe the [email protected] address is no longer being used if you were sending it to that address (I don't believe that address is published on this site any more anyway, though if it is, please point it out).

One is from May 2006

That would be the date that concerned my comment. I sent several emails regarding a situation between another member and myself, you were not the attending mod, so you're off the hook ...  Wink . I sent a number of emails but never got a response from the mod in question. It could be possible that he never received them, one never knows. I am just concerned about that. Thanks anyways!
