New Crew Position!

Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:45 am

Hi Everyone:

In order to better serve our growing Portuguese speaking membership base, we are looking to strengthen the Support crew with the addition of a native Portuguese speaker.

If you speak fluent English and Portuguese, enjoy corresponding with users, photographers and industry professionals from all over the world, have a good eye for detail, enjoy the thrill of problem solving and the satisfaction that comes with providing solutions, then you’re exactly the person we’re looking for!

Simply send me an email at [email protected] by January 12th. with a brief description of yourself and why you’d like to be a member of the crew at Airliners.net. I’d be interested in hearing from all interested individuals, regardless of whether you were unsuccessful in the past, your age, type of membership or number of posts on the discussion forums. If accepted, you can look forward to crew member benefits such as complimentary First Class membership in addition to other perks.

Thank you for your attention and we look forward to welcoming you soon!

Regards,
Hepkat

I'm just wondering what happened to English being the only accepted language?
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

For those wishing to post then I imagine they have to brush up on their English, but there are probably a fair number of people who only want a photographer account or to be able to browse the forums without ads, so perhaps this is why the new position is required.

Of course posts on the forums will continue to be in English, however we handle situations from users, photographers and third parties from all over the world on a daily basis. It's not unusual in a single week to have to write correspondences in Spanish, German, French, Norwegian and every now and then we have to bluff our way through Portuguese.

We also shouldn't forget that many of our over 20,000 photographers come from Eastern Europe and Asia where English might not be so readily spoken or understood. To this end, we're currently undertaking a massive translation project that will see many of the site's most important pages and FAQs rendered into German, Spanish, Polish, Chinese (Mandarin) and French.

Regards,
Hepkat

Ah, the project that I started when I was crew... that got nowhere. Remember all those translated documents? Will they be used? People put a lot of work into those, and I remember getting an email saying something along the lines of "can't do it, haven't got enough time".

There's probably the potential to make money involved this time so that's why priorities have changed. Funny how money has a way of doing that.

Speculation my friend, nothing more. Money is usually a powerful motivating force.
