Logged In As Ps76 - Except That I Am Not Ps76.

Tue Nov 06, 2007 4:16 am

First off.

I am NOT member ps76.

I am just a guy that likes to read all the posts and check out the pics with out posting (call me a lurker).

I am not a "member" of this site.

Anyhow, I came to the site today and low and behold - I am logged in as premium member ps76.

It seems I have full access to this account - I have done nothing malicous. I am thinking that ps76 might want his account back. I have no idea how this came to be.

My guess is that others are experiencing this same problem.

This is weird and probably something the mods should look at.

Thank you.

Nope.

Personal Laptop.

It says PS76 is from the United Kingdom.

I live in Oregon.

An interesting mystery to say the least.

A personal message came into this account. I clicked (is that bad?). It was from another user stating that he was also logged in as ps76.

ps76 2007-11-04 00:33:47

Hi - For some strange reason, the Airliners
webpage is showing that I'm logged in as you. My
handle is Peh and I entered my password so I have
no idea what's going on. I'm going to log out and
back in and see if that fixes it.

This site sure has gone to the dogs since the recent
"enhancements".

Peh

Seems other folks are also experiencing this issue as well.

Hmmm. I'm still AirTranTUS. Though being logged in as another member could be fun, until they traced the IP address.

All the related threads to this one are types such as "Not Staying Logged In" etc. This is a new one "Becoming Logged In".

I suppose they (who's they?) can trace the IP address right to where I said I am in Oregon.

I could just log out, but I thought I would bring this to someone's attention before I logged out.

I like the way you put that "becoming logged in" becuase that is exactly what happend!

May be related to this - I cannot log out anymore. I log out. I close the browser window. I close the whole browser. I empty the entire browser cache. I even restart my system. Yet still, I remain logged in.

Wonder how the system determines my login information? Seems it is stored on the servers, as I cannot think of any possible explanation where it would be hidden on my computer.

Perhaps that is why some people find themselves logged in with foreign accounts.

By the time I get back from work I may no longer be "ps76" he may indeed be himself again!

Which means I won't be able to post (as ps76) that the problem is fixed!

It was fun while it lasted.

I should perhaps consider becoming a member.

Maybe this is just a new way for the site admins to gives folks a taste of what it's like to be a part of the airliners.net community!

Would it be uncool to take advantage of my "trial membership" to check out the things available to premium members?

Perhaps I should start a thread in civil aviation, something about Northwest's DC9's ?  Smile

I suppose I've never become a member because I don't really have much to add to the conversations. I'm not a pilot, a flight attendant, a ramper or anything even remotely affiliated with the airline industry; but I do think planes are cool.

I just noticed that my autoforms have filled in all of ps76's information - his username and password. I can't "see" his password because it is hidden, but my computer obviously knows his password for some reason.

LOL - I just saw this. Chris's response was about as dry as they come... wow.

Okay, we banned him only for the reason that someone is using his account. As soon as the correct person contacts us, we will activate the account. It's nothing against Ps76, it's simply for the safety of his account, he's not banned for bad behavior of anything like that.

This is an isolated incident, we have had no other cases like this so for now, we feel this is the best thing to do.

Thanks,

I'm "using" this account only because this account "came" to me. I'd still like to know why my laptop thinks I am a guy from the UK when I visit this site. As far I know, no one has used my laptop but me - it just stays at my house here in Oregon. I still like visiting the site and reading the threads as well as searching for photos.

You should know that if I had any intention on posting anywhere on this site other than this thread - I would in fact join with my own account.

It doesn't concern you that ps76's account information somehow ended up on my computer allowing me to post as him?

Also, if I am banned? How come I can still post? That's also weird, right?

I suppose in the scheme of things it's not that big of a deal - but I'm sure that some folks would just change the password and keep the account.

Why is so hostile? They banned him because someone was using his account unauthorised. They can't continue to let the guy use an account that is not his even if he has good intentions. The real question is that why is he able to post while being banned? Also, how secure are our accounts if these sorts of things are able to happen?

I would think that they have the account information for the real Ps76, and should be able to contact him/her to get this corrected. I also think the "imposter" should be offered one year of First Class membership for free.

Regards,

-The guy why is not and never will ps76.

I appreciate your honesty through this whole situation. It's a weird deal but it's never happened to anyone before and absolutely know one is experiencing this except you. I don't think that two people are using this account, because the real user has not chimed in. Now that his account is banned, we'll see if someone surfaces and can dig deeper into this issue.

Quoting ScarletHarlot (Reply 43):
Yes - please do. I enjoyed reading your posts on this thread. Hell, DM should be giving you a Premium Membership or something for being so honest.

Guy who is not not PS76... if you want a premium membership for your honesty, I'm all for it.  Smile Email me and I'll take care of you... [email protected] Also, I think you'd make a lot of quick friends if your username remained "guywhoisnotps76." I think you'd be a real fan favorite.  Wink

The real question is that why is he able to post while being banned?

We banned him for 1 day so he was able to post again, just a small press of wrong buttons. He is officially banned now though, so there should be no more posting.

Alas, I think the username length limitation would prevent that.
