It's still the temp chat active and I don't know anything yet how the new chat will look like! But once we know something we will let you know!

It's been the "temporary" chat for a long time now.

The chat feature used to be one of my favorite functions of Anet. I know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Could anybody please give us a firm timeline as to when the "new chat with better features" will be installed?

We dont have a timeline yet! And the Temp chat is working and the only feature this temp chat does not have compared to the old regular one is the user list! So feel free to join in the chat and use your favorite tool of A.net!

And let's not forget that when that temporary chat was released, we were also given a timeline of "about 3 weeks" for the more permanent solution.

Another reason that I'm not aggrieved that my FC membership runs out in a few hours...

Whats so bad about the temp version of the chat? it is working fine! You can chat as much as you want to! there is only no user list! rest is pretty much the same... So, you are welcome to log into the chat and enjoy it!

How about the fact that the chat seems to reset itself every five minutes?

That being said, WILCO, I'd consider the lack of a user list a pretty big deal. Do you ever walk into a party with a blindfold on, and have no idea who else is there? It's the same situation.

Yup. Pretty hard to hold a conversation lately.

Defeats the purpose of having a chat room, don't you think?

Yes, it would be better if there would be a user list. but there is not. But you can use the chatroom. And shouldnt that be the most important part?

We don't use that one anymore! Go to the fronpage of www.airliners.net and go to the drop down menu for the FORUM and then click on LIVE CHAT! and then you'll be taken to the correct temp version of the chat....

Enjoy

Which, unfortunately, is absolutely useless, so I'm hoping, given the amount of time that this has been going on, that the new version is a huge improvement.

WHY is it useless?! You can chat! And that's what we all want or not?! It does not have a userlist, that's the only thing which is a bit annoying! But otherwise: Chatting is possible, and that's the most important part of a chat, isn't it?

Sorry Wilco, you need to get your head out of the clouds. The chat in it's current format can be described as nothing other than terrible. Chat rooms NEED a user list. How else would you tell if there was someone else in the room? You can't.

Relax GKirk!

A chatroom is for chatting and this chatroom makes it possible to chat! A userlist for sure would be great, but join the chat and say hello, then you'll see who is online!
Maybe the chat isn't the best, but as you might have known this is a temp version! I don't know for how long it'll stay, but until a new chat will be available, this chat is up and you CAN chat! Which is still the most important part to me of a CHATroom...

That's indeed very annoying. It's only since Wilco mentioned in reply 15 that it will work from the front page that I got it to work. I always tried accessing it through the drop-down list at the forums.

Oh. Dear.

Can't we just have to old one back? When you have a chat room one of the things you need is a user list?

I think its time to face the music, you need a list, then people will stop moaning  Smile

Hello everybody,

as you might have read in the Site Related Forum: Weekly update on A.net! The chat hasn't the highest priority at the moment... I know this has been like that for quite a bit... But there are other things which are more important at the moment. The chat IS working and it is stable, just doesn't have a userlist! That's the only "problem" with the chat... Otherwise it is working fine...
So be patient...

Thanks WILCO737.

The official word is we want to get to chat as fast as possible, but there are larger projects, such as screening/upload makeover that take higher priority. I, or the chat ops, will be sure to update you as soon as we have a better timeline.

You need to use the link in the drop down menu on the front page of airliners.net. There go to FORUM, then use LIVE CHAT from there, then you will be routed to the correct chat...

I'm kinda in the middle with this one. The chat works but isn't very good. The launch of the new homepage tomorrow there will be a huge thread in Site Related with opinions flying everywhere as they always do. After this has been dealt with and the other errors. I agree that the bugs on the site should be taken care of before the homepage. Almost as if it's a lick of paint over the cracks.

And at the moment 4 people are in the chat

How do you know? Do you do a roll call?

"Hey everyone. This is Skippy. Who else is here? Hold on while I get a pen to write down everyone's name. "

And then do you have to do it every ten minutes or so to see if anyone has joined in the meantime?
