Delays In Posting

Wed Apr 02, 2008 3:48 pm

I seem to be experiencing a 4 minute delay between the time someone posts something and the time it appearsin the forums.

For example, in the word game thread, I notice a reply is 45 seconds old. So I post a reply. Then the system seems to quickly catch up and I realize that I've actually replied to something that was posted 4 minutes and 45 seconds ago.

Anyone else notice this?

Yup. Posted a reply in civ av about 5 minutes ago. Forum page counts the post, shows me as 'last posted'. When opening the thread, the reply is nowhere to be found...

Yes, there is a lag. New replies to threads don't appear instantly, you need to "check for new replies" to see what you've just posted.

Is it a Demand Media buffer of some sort? Or a screening thing?

Been doing it for several days Mark.

Just work around it, I guess . . .

Maybe we'll get to read about it being fixed on the Weekly Update?

What's the excuse for not fixing it?

I'm not sure DM is aware of it. They haven't yet posted in your thread, and they didn't post in mine.

I was going to start a thread until I read this one..

So I started a thread and it took what seemed to be about 30 seconds from submit to showing up on the thread list. OK, nothing new per say, probably my end anyway, so I basically ignore it. Then I noticed Pep had posted (was shown as the last poster) in the gas price thread and it took a little bit for his post to actually show up in the thread. Anyone else seeing this? Any chance Cwillet might be allowed to explain what's going on?

For the past few days, I've noticed a different kind of "delay." I'll hit the send button and after about two seconds, my post shows up in the thread list. But it says "20 seconds" in the "Last Reply" column. But it wasn't 20 seconds. It was only two seconds. What gives?

Same goes for me. When I have posted it says 20 sec, and when I refresh the site it goes like this;

14seconds ago

5seconds ago

0seconds ago

10 seconds ago and then it counts up again. Really strange.

Hi guys,

I apologise for the problems you've been experiencing. Just to let you know that we are aware of the issue and we're looking into it. I can't give you an exact cause or solution at present; however, I'll get back to you as soon as we have any news.

Thanks,

Does DM consider 6 weeks an acceptable response time?

I can only apologise for the response time; it's not right you've had to wait six weeks and it certainly shouldn't happen again. We're making a huge push to look into all issues posted in Site Related - and to make sure we respond to all of them. I don't know how this slipped through the net.

As I said before, we aware of the issue and it is being looked into.  Smile

Thanks,

Look, I hate to be a jerk, and maybe this isn't an appropriate place, but it sounds like the left hand and the right aren't talking. DM has made pretty clear in other threads that responding to bug reports in Site Related is NOT a priority. I'm confused (but I think the community has a right to know what the 'official' line is).

Looking into something is one thing, but is there something being done about it (and the numerous other bugs as well)?

There were added a few more Members to the customer service & support crew lately, and we are now trying to respond to bug reports posted in site related and keep you updated on what is going on!

You can be assured that it is not only looked into the bugs, but it is searched for a solution to solve them! However some issues do take a certain time to be resolved and sometimes it is not as easy as it seems.

Rather laid down the last day or so, now it's back.

Significant delay in seeing the "last post" in a thread. Two to ten minutes is not unusual.

Same here. I hadn't really noticed it until tonight (Monday night), and it's a pretty bad delay.

Since you can't see the posts others have made for several minutes after they are made, one may end up making exactly the same point as a previous post without the opportunity to realize it. Yes, I know that this was possible before too, but the window for these overlapping posts was usually only tens of seconds not tens of minutes.

I anticipate this post will be deleted, but I think DM needs to put the new homepage on hold and start devoting resources to fixing bugs. I'd rather have a smooth running website this week instead of the launch of a new homepage.

Agreed. Whats the point of changing something that very few people may even care about instead of prioritizing fixing what we already have and have very openly brought to DM's attention? Not to mention the possibility of even more new bugs by changing something that isn't even broken?

Again, agreed. The site doesn't need a makeover, it needs to be running properly ....  irked

FYI, this problem continues to exist.

I've posted in a thread. I show up on the thread listing as the last post - - - 6 minutes ago - - - and the post still isn't there.

Quite annoying . . .

In the "Tonights FUBAR" thread, the thread list shows CWILLET as the last poster, one hour and 25 minutes ago. Yet when you open the thread, ANCs post from SIX DAYS ago ins the last one to show....

Edit: Looking at Cwillets profile lists him as: CREW: FOUNDER

WTF???
