76000+ Members?

Fri Apr 04, 2008 3:42 pm

Soon we will reach 77,000 members in A.net. But I really wonder if all of this members are "real"?? I mean do we really have 77,000 paying members. It seems that 90% of that 77,000 haven't made any post.

So can anyone answer my question???

You love question marks, don't you???????

To answer the question the bulk of the users are inactive. So the number is inaccurate, as much as some may say it is accurate, it is not.

The 20/80 rule applies on these forums...20% of the users are posting 80% of the threads/posts.

I presume most members are not paying members - just for pics .

Most of those 70 000 + members have a free photographer account. And most with the free photographer account are long gone.

Check out....

I think you'll find the number of usernames to be far less than the number you cite....

Some members actually own a premium / first class account but rarely post, something like 10 a year or something.

Check out all the people, many first class members, who have never posted. Makes me think they sign up for the lack of watermarks, among other benefits.

We may technically have nearly 77000 members but right now only 11,500 have ever made a single post in the forums.

Say 20% of these users are doing 80% of the posting. That takes the number of really active people to 2000.

On the userlist organized by number of posts the top 2000 people have 600+ posts. I'd say it's fair to say these are the most active people here. Maybe even less.

Okay, so we have really so many members. Thought that just the crew made false members, so the numbers would look good. It wouldnt maybe looks so attractive with just 2000members

They wouldn't do that, this site would lose its creditability if they did that. And this site has been around for like 8 or 9 years now, so lots of members have come and gone.

I'm a bit surprised that more people don't use the forums. There's a lot to do on this site and, frankly, the pictures all start looking the same after a while. I only look at pics if something new and exciting is happening. At the least the forums keep changing, especially non-av.

I don't know about you, but 242 new uses in only three days seems awfully suspicious to me. Especially when I click on the registered users number to pull up the member list and sort by registration date... 23 members registered between 4/4/08 and right now.

I count 63 user names per page, and there are 199 pages of users back to:

Administrator N/A 3251 0 1999-05-16

Rough math, that gives us.. 12,537 members in the database. 1/6 of the claimed number.

Explanations?

You have two types of users.

1. The registered users with an actual username that can (not that all have) post in the forums.

2. Those that can sign up with an e-mail address to personalize their front page. This gives them the option to see the latest photos added to the database only.

I would bet any money that not even one third of even half the 77,000 are paying members.

Enron accountants made the counter. They are great at making a loss look like a gain.

We're now at 77281 users. 400 newbies over the last day or 2?

It's not broken.  Wink It is just registered users as it says. These are not all First Class and Premium members. If you click on the number and then click on their names in the user list you can see what type of user they are. First Class users have a First Class icon on the right. And if you click through to their profile, Premium members have a header image telling you so, Photographer (free) accounts, do not.

Hope that helps solve the mystery!

So are you trying to say all the news numbers popping up are photographers? The numbers still seem pretty inflated.

That doesn't fit.

By the user name list we have slightly over 12,000 registered forum members. On the photo search page in the top right if you switch the selector to "all time" it says there are 14,268 photogs. Even rounding up that's only 27,000 members.

There is the registration you can do in to customize the front page. This way you can see the # of added photos.

All you do is provide your email address.
