Come Join Us - Customer Service & Support

Sun Apr 13, 2008 1:20 am

Hello everyone,

In order to provide a better service to our membership, we are pleased to announce that we are currently looking to expand the Customer Service & Support team. If you enjoy helping out fellow aviation enthusiasts with site issues, know your way around computers, and have some free time you are likely already dedicating to the site  Silly , then you will fit right in!

Simply send a mail to [email protected] by April 20, telling us why would you like to be part of the crew. Keep in mind this is a volunteer position  Wink but we do offer free First Class membership, among other perks.

We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,
The Customer Service & Support team

I'm seriously considering throwing my hat in the ring. Could you elaborate on what the "other perks" might be?

Are you looking for people with basic computer skills or for someone with code/programming knowledge?

It may be silly to even ask, but is there an age requirement?

No, basic skills (know your way around most browsers, most Operating systems etc.)

Quoting Bok269 (Reply 5):

We ask for people mature enough to work in a team, let's tell it this way. Sixteen would be a good age to start with.

I'll jump in and agree with this with one reservation. The really tough part of CS is dealing with problems such as site outages, etc. He doesn't have any experience handling customers in this type of situation as far as I know.

I know that I'm late to the game, but I'll say one thing for sure... Ted is a hell of a CSR.

I actually met Ted through a tech support call through a company that he used to work for. He was nothing more than polite, congenial, and 100% helpful. Instead of treating me like an off-the-shelf idiot, he seemed to be well aware that he was dealing with someone who had used his company's software product for years.

While we were waiting on an available member of the engineering team, we somehow got on the subject of aviation, and this site came up and we realized that we had something in common, and instead of a chore, it became a pleasant conversation. We talked at great lengths about it (as well as a.net) while listening to cheese hold music and "your call will be answered in the order that it was received" crap while waiting for an engineer.

The only complaint that I would have is the 45 minutes of hold before an engineer actually came on the line, but that was mitigated by a good BS session.

The best part about Ted's customer service, though, was that he followed the ticket all the way through to resolution, and didn't just try to pass it off. I can't say for sure that that's honestly how he would have treated a customer only because we struck up a conversation, or how the internal ticketing system worked, but all-in-all, I have to say that you deal with a lot of smug a-holes in this industry, and Ted was a refreshing change from the norm.

I'd give him serious consideration for *any* CS job.
We can agree to disagree.
