Dmtracker.com? What Is It?

Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:21 am

Many of us on the website, including myself, use Mozilla Firefox and the add on NoScript. Upon coming on tonight, I noticed a pop up for dmtracker.com. My question is, what is this? What is the need for it, and what will be concluded with the results it provides? I've marked it as untrusted for the meantime since I am under the impression it's a simple tracker that I don't need tracking me.

Well done. Have you checked the website www.dmtracker.com ? Fishier than the Bouillabaisse I had for lunch.
But that's just what Firefox, AdBlock Plus and NoScript are for.  Smile

Perhaps this is just something that is similar to Google Analytics? Page views, user count etc...

Given the URL and the fact that dmtracker.com only shows a holding page, I'd say it's probably some custom tracking script hosted and run directly by DM. Either way, it's going in the 'Untrusted' pile.

Hmm... first time I visited the site, I was forwarded to getcash.com - or maybe accidentally clicked while the page loaded. Anyway...

Thanks for the heads up on this, yet something more to have to worry about fending off. What's even more fishy is that even the first classers are getting this too? I thought that was the whole idea behind throwing out $5 every month was to not have to worry about fending this stuff off your computer?

I'm not getting anything, no hint of anything at all.

I'm seeing it, and like all of the other scripts & advertising on this site, it is blocked. (Thank you, Firefox!)

I assume since there has been no official response that DM is aware of this bug and is working to resolve it.

Hi all,

To be clear, and apologies for not bringing this up prior, this is a cookie that is harmless and is the exact same thing to what we have currently to track general stats about the site, Google Analytics. It does not collect anything that we do not collect already so it's 100% harmless. If you would like to block it, you can feel free but it's nothing bad, it simply gives us more visibility about the site and therefore helps us with decisions on improvements and features.

Thanks,

Monique

I guess I'll just have to spend more time on the site...  Wink
