Chat Client (Updated Version)

Sat Mar 28, 2009 5:32 am

Hi all

I just logged onto Live Chat to find an updated reversion, 5 minutes after my eyes adjusted to the brightness.

Whilst I'm all for progress, The new colour theme is far too bright and hurts my eyes if I stare at it for longer than a minute, especially if I'm multi-tasking between A.net forums and the chat, The colours are far too different.

Is there any real reason this was changed?

I agree with Brendan on this count, the classic blue background is much more comfortable to look at then this sterile white, especially at night when my room is darker!

I have just checked the new version of chat client and I totally agree with Brendan and Martijn. It's too brightness...

I've heard Ming was playing around with the themes the otherday so I guess it can't be too hard to change it back...

It'd just be nice to have it back at the original colours -- I'm not phased if the client stays as the new version or goes back, I think it would be nice to have the newer version... but if themes have already been changed/altered, I can't imagine it would be too hard to put it back on what it was on.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Yes, I've been playing around with the Themes. It's hard to please everyone.

However, I have a question for you. What versions are you comparing?

The "new" version has always had a white/gray background.

Thanks, Ming

It's true it's hard to please everyone, but before the version change, Everyone was pleased.

I'm comparing the current version with the most previous version.

All I'm asking is put a darker UI on the chat, Dispose of the horrible White/Powder Blue and put a Medium Blue/Grey which is uniform with the site already and make the chat background a very soft grey.

Thanks for the specific information... Sometimes it's hard when multiple people use different descriptions.

It's not only you mate. All of us have eye trouble with this new chat room style!  Sad

After much consideration, The new client and resizability creates more hassles than it's worth, however I'm happy with it, I don't see any need for it to be changed back.
Although it's not ideal in a larger state, It's nicer than the older version and I applaud whoever was behind giving the chat an 'upgrade' in moderation in recent days.

Cheers

I didn't like the new chat theme at first, but it grew on me. I really love it after the background color was adjusted to the soft gray it's at now--a lot easier on the eyes in fullscreen. The new resize option is also very nice. Kudos to Ming11 for making these changes.  Smile

I thought I'd bump this again instead of making a new thread

What's the plausibility on restricting the font types and sizes? At the moment it's not uncommon for certain people to use 24pt fonts or some font with bold and underline in some horrendous colour.

I don't have a problem with being able to customize your look on the chat but when you get kids who make rediculous fonts which are dramatically larger or rediculously smaller than the standard set size.

Perhaps put the basic essential fonts in like Arial, Courier, Trebuchet/Tahoma, Verdana and Times New Roman and leave them all at a set size of 10-12pt?

Just a thought...

Hi,

Yes, we can limit the font size and font style choices. We'll take a look and see what is reasonable.

Thanks for the feedback.
