Not to the hour or minute, no, sorry. It happened "yesterday afternoon" here in NZ, and I'll keep my eye on it in case it happens again.

If it is a known bug (and intermittent) then I'm okay with it - sort of. I'm such a computer Luddite, I always assume it must be me.

It did happen again, at precisely 9am New Zealand time this morning. It lasted fro about four minutes.

I haven't followed this "top of the hour" bug thing. Is there anything I can do?

It's BAAACK! Seriously, why can't you people fix this issue? It happens all the time and has been for over a year.

Constant cookie corruption here. Put in your username and password, it works to proof your post. Click submit it says you are wrong. Erasing cookies and emptying cache will solve it for a bit, but the site then starts to forget you are logged in (despite telling you that you are), and rejecting passwords again.

Been happening for 2 weeks on Safari Mac.

ikramerica, there is a problem related to Safari and cookies in the latest update. This particulary affects auto login features and is a Safari issue, as it is not limited to Airliners.net. Hopefully Safari developers will get that bug fixed swiftly. Incidently, a similar issue was going a year ago.

I just happened here at 5:00CST on Jan 10. This lasted for about 2 minutes and is very, very annoying as I see it just about every time I am on forums at the top of the hour.

It's happening to me just about every hour on the hour now, if I'm on the forum. I go away for a few minutes and when I come back it seems to have fixed itself.

The "top of the hour" bug is already a well documented and reported bug, so there's no need to continue to report it, as the crew is quite aware of it since it also affects them. If there is anything to report on in regards to getting it addressed, it will be posted in the forum.

Maybe it would help if someone 'in the know' would provide a description of the probably cause(s) of the "top of the hour outage" and what the nature of the effort to resolve it might entail. No need to get defensive, however this is becoming a major pain and a little insight will make it easier to endure.

Yes, I'd like to hear this. I have never heard of half a site giving out at the top of each hour.

It's extremely annoying and I seem to run into it almost every day (including just now which prompted me to check to see if there had been any recent developments in this forum).

Demand Media runs many other websites. I can't imagine that it affects all those sites. Why can't they give some priority to fixing it in A.net? It must have been first reported well over a year ago, if not two.

On an unrelated note, is it possible to fix the grammatical error on the page that appears when the forum breaks? Right now it says "Our forum is currently down please come back later" or something to that effect, which is a blatant run-on sentence. Not to be nitpicky, but it looks pretty unprofessional.

I came to the thread now to see if this had been reported - I see it has.

Possibly related if there is some glitch, but not so long ago I tried to upload a photo and got the message that my queue was full and so I could not upload. I have plenty of slots in the queue, and also it wasn't on the hour. I tried again shortly afterwards and all was well. Just for information.

Cheers.

The exact cause of the Top of the Hour bug is this sites connection to the network, pinpointing the exact "trigger" for it is proving harder than thought. The developer for the site has extensively reviewed our end and all appears to be in order. There was a problem on our end, it was resolved for a short period until one of the major outages, then fixed again.

It's been handed over to the Network team for investigating and I've asked that it be the only fix they look at until it is resolved as it affects the entire site.

Had case of the top of the hour outage just occur at 5:32am Pacific.

I don't believe its a traditional network issue - ie inability to access to domain as one still clearly reaches airlines.net, and is greeted with a notice saying the forums are down.

I am on a Mac running OS10 Lion and browsing with Firefox 9.0.1. Literally everyday when I come on here, when I use the search bar, it tells me there are no shots of aircraft matching my search in the database when I know for a fact that there are. Normally, I would let this slide, but when it happens day after day, I get a little annoyed as I am actually paying for these services. I have included a screen shot of a search I did for an RF-4EJ Phantom. I typed in the registration (47-6903) and it tells me that there are no photos matching my search results. There are however 7 photos of this aircraft in the database. Please fix this.

Vik, that image is by Steve Morris, who unfortunately has had all his images removed from the database, so it's not a bug per se. It presents the data that comes from the DB, and since there is no info there...
The image ID and thumb remains in the Editors Choice list, which is why you saw it there.

Vik, that image is by Steve Morris, who unfortunately has had all his images removed from the database, so it's not a bug per se. It presents the data that comes from the DB, and since there is no info there...
The image ID and thumb remains in the Editors Choice list, which is why you saw it there.

Ahhh, thanks for the explanation. Oh well.

One other thing I've noticed that's happened quite often in the last week or two:

Quite often I'll go scan my own photos to see if I've already uploaded a particular photo. I go to Photographer's Corner --> Upload Queue Statistics --> Click here to view your photos currently in the database ordered by photo views.

That seems to load just fine. But then I'll sort by Latest Additions First, and it'll keep thinking about it without loading. This happens intermittently; when I just tried, it loaded just fine.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

Over recent days I have noticed a regular occurence where the site takes quite a long time to open - definitely nothing to do with my internet connection.

Have others noticed this too?

I haven't had a problem with the site opening, but over the past couple of days (and especially today) the response time when changing pages etc. seems very slow, not always, but much of the time. For example, just waited over 30 seconds for a "Post message" to be accepted, and just moving from page to page in a forum usually takes at least 15 seconds, often more.

Same thing in both Firefox 10 and IE8, and not a problem with other sites which are as fast as usual.

Hi All

A heads up, the current instability is a problem, however, diagnostics are being run to fix a few long outstanding issues. Short term pain for long term gain, it's what we need.

Thanks

Paul

Hi All,

Some of you may have noticed a new Head Screener, John, now appears. This is an account set up for a team of developers who are looking into some specific issues which require fixing for the team and the community.

They are not screening any images just running diagnostics, the account will be removed once they've got the data they require. You should then see a fix for a few things in the following weeks, in particular, the Top of the Hour bug and some of the instability you see at other times.

Thought it best to let you know

Thanks and regards

Paul
