There was also another active pilot, PhilSquares, who was a 744 Captain with SQ. He was very helpful and provided a good perspective on the real operations. However, he was banned after some comments he posted and never returned. A big loss for everyone.

I sense his spirit lingers.

One of the few a.netters I've met is a photographer called Frank (Dutch or German?) who I bumped into at MAN whilst he was spotting about 15 years ago. He introduced me to this website.

Anyone know where I can find or get in touch with him?

How about overcrowded with people who make temporary user names to troll certain users via friends and live in their parents basement? A.net seems to be overcrowded with that demographic.

I think the nasty replies people receive from posts has also caused several people to leave. Some people on this site are just rude. Makes the place a lot less fun than it was years ago.

Is the benefit of not cluttering the membership list really worth eliminating some members who wish to take a break? I suppose I always found A.net to be a hobby, not a commitment that I have to drop by every few months or even once a year.

I wish I had been around for the snow globe thread. Reading back on it is excellent (not sure if that's the right word, "surreal" might be better), but having experienced that in real time must have been something else entirely. it almost seems like fiction. I guess that's where the saying "the truth is many times stranger than fiction" comes from!

Yep, there are plenty of people (banned users?) who are trolling the site under false usernames and flags (several have been listed above). Some of them are pretty bad at it, too, because some of them forget that they are purporting to be newbies, and then make snowglobe jokes. What an unproductive way to spend time...

In any event, my own policy is to report and ignore the troll accounts. No sense in responding to them, which is giving them exactly what they want.

B747Skipper left a few years ago, he left after quite a fanfare and said he would take himself and his followers over to PPrune.

He left for the same reason as most of us Industry insiders leave/stop posting, we get pi$$ed off with being contradicted and told we're wrong by some spotty 14y/o who only has a strong personal opinion as a source. Also after you have been around this site for a few years, you being to realise, it's the same old [email protected] that keeps on being discussed over and again and after a while it just gets boring and life moves on.

It was great back in 2001-2003ish with the "Groovy Gang" and all the meets and banter we used to have etc. but people just started to move on, the younger ones were growing up, going out more and experiencing the real world, starting new jobs, having relationships etc. and eventually it just fizzled out. A lot of us are still friends, and keep in touch via Facebook now.

It then changed again when Johan sold out, and was never the same place to be.

I come on every once in a while, but i've only made about 1/2 a dozen posts in the last few years.

I really enjoyed him. He provided major insight into many areas of the business. I asked him why he left shortly after he deleted his account, and it was a familiar story...he was tired of the 16 year old crowd acting like they knew more about being a dispatcher and airline ops than he did. He just got fed up he said. Who wants to argue with a bunch of kids?

It's the same reason people are abandoning Reddit. It started out as a way for people to share cool things, and now it's a cesspool of teenagers that just bicker. Same here. Everything ends up as an Airbus vs Boeing rant, US3 vs ME3, 787 vs 350. It gets old and redundant really quickly.

And like someone else posted earlier; it's a real PITA when some 14 year old kid tries to tell you about your airline's op specs, aircraft specs, SOP's etc.

There's a ton of valuable knowledge on this site, but I fear that people aren't willing to share due to the above reasons.
(And I haven't even been commenting for 10-15 years like some people, though I was a longggg time lurker)

It all started going downhill when ConcordeBoy was shown the door for the final time... Oh those were some fine ole days.

Ah yes, Freddie kept this place hoppin' for quite a while.

And you knew it was just a matter of time before one of his questionable posts would stir the mods from their slumber and him to a forced exile...

Another one I have missed is TomInNO. Very insightful guy..

He left for the same reason as most of us Industry insiders leave/stop posting, we get pi$$ed off with being contradicted and told we're wrong by some spotty 14y/o who only has a strong personal opinion as a source

True.....the most common reason....people quit forums.

No. We hate Mir. He's a Yankees fan.

LOL. I've known Mir for 10 years. He's still around.

Yeah, I know. I still hate him.

I only ever made it to two A.net meets (BOS and LAX). Wish I had gotten to go to more of them.
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

Anybody know what happened to Brissie_lions? Starter of the first self-pic thread?

Didn't Brissie_Lions passed away some 5 years ago or was that Frank Schaefer?
