Honestly, this junk should be getting filtered out by the Ad Server(s) being used by DM for a.net. If it's consistently *not*, which it has been (and this has been happening for years), you need you choose a different Ad Server.

I just got two pop-ups back-to-back when I clicked on a thread. The first one was for recipes which I was able to close. The second one was for Parents magazine about pregnancy. Adding insult to injury, that one had a secondary pop-up asking me what medication I take for hemmerhoids. I couldn't get it closed. I had to do control+alt+delete to get it closed.

I'm using Firefox and windows vista.

This is still happening on both Safari and Chrome on OS X 10.9.4. Got the same Parenting ad in both browsers on a test loading the page. DM sure knows how to fix things apparently....

And just got it again when I went back into the Forums. What did I pay for, other than to line Demand (huh, irony there) Media's pockets. How about I demand they get off their duffs and fix things.

I keep getting pop-unders from blinkx.com. These are very content heavy running uncommanded video and sound, which slows my not-so-powerful PC down to a crawl

Here is the URL of the one that opened when I accessed this thread:

http://www.blinkx.com/cf/-MCf9okBcBP...p_Lvo7U5KIywNDuiFVo7gawOPmBUWeOuap

Please get this sorted, thank you.

as usual, via svr123.com -- why are they still in the loop at all? That URL should be blacklisted completely.

Still getting them, particularly the srv123 one. After 10 years on a.net, I think I'm done. This site has become a true joke. I wish you all the best. Except DM. They can go to hell.

I understand where you are coming from. This pop-up change will drive many high value members away from the forums. It needs to be reversed in its entirety or the site will die. No one will put up with this level of obnoxious pop-ups from dodgy internet sites.

STILL getting them. I think expecting us to upgrade to a first class membership in order to be able to use the site properly/without annoyances is a little ridiculous. I really don't want to see a.net go down the pan now

I haven't received any of the pop-unders once I'm properly logged into the forums, but they still come up when I initially visit the site, which never used to happen before.

I don't think these pop-under ads are acceptable for Airliners.net in any form, whether you're logged in or not. There are numerous ways of ad revenues that this site can receive without resorting to that.

I've been a member of this community for nearly ten years ... I don't see myself sticking around for another ten if this type of advertising is to persist.

EDIT: I stand corrected. As soon as I submitted this post, I received a pop-under ad. I didn't catch what it was because I instinctively closed it immediately, but this is not acceptable.

I'm not interested in hearing any excuses from the support staff -- these ads need to be GONE!

I have been getting pop-ups for a few days. They come on when I click on a photo, click on a thread or change forums using the drop down menu in the forum index. They don't even go to the background...they come up on the screen ahead of the A.net page.
Edit: I am using Safari version 7.0.5 and I am running OSX 10.9.4.

if details of the exact advertisements could be provided

I have seen spam-like ads for discounted items or wanting me to install something to clean my computer. I also just had a popup to a women's website to the article "13 Ways You Know Your Pregnant" or something like that.

Relax, this is the face of the future.. sites put up ad road blocks to entice paying members, and advertising companies spend thousands trying to circumvent them.. some blocks are more resistant than others. The question I have often pondered is: Does anybody actually buy anything based on the ads? It seems the only people making money on them are the ad companies and the companies that accept money to display them. Otherwise it's throwing good money down a hole. I can not think of a single study that can correlate actual sales to advertisement viewing that wasn't sponsored by the advertising industry.

I suspect part of the problem is this site was initially designed using now obsolete software/hardware with no vision of a long future. Then it was sold to a company that has many others irons in the fire. The other part is that by accepting ads to some degree, Demand Media generates cash to run the site.. cut off the ads and we all will either have to pay more, or the site will fold.

The cost to update and redesign is prohibitive, so we muddle along as best we can. Some day it will fold. However in the mean time with all it's quirks, it's not a bad site.

John Oliver said on his show that a banner ad is clicked on purpose 0.17% of the time.

Hello All,

Our apologies to the first class members who saw advertisements but that issue has been resolved and we thank you for your understanding and patience whilst it was fixed. Should you again experience this please email Support with a screenshot and we'll deal with the issue for you.

We've also had some malware advertisements from a 3rd party removed and again should you come across any suspicious advertisements please contact Support.

Non first class members will continue to see advertisements however at no point should they contain malicious or questionable content. If such adverts appear, premium members should forward a screenshot to [email protected] and it will be dealt with as best as possible by the crew.

Thanks and regards

Paul
