The Photo widget in the profile just shows all white, no pictures anymore.

Not sure what causes this.

Another 24-hours and I continue to learn about pasta and noddle recipes along with pregnancy information with my daily morning extra browser tabs.

I wish this get resolved soon.

I'm glad to know someone else is seeing this, not just me. I turned to "site related" to send a note. I now get the pregnancy pop-up ad on multiple computers, including those that don't belong to me and I haven't used previously (like this one now), so it's not responding to any of my search history... not that I'm searching for pregnancy tests...

What seems to happen is that I close a thread (back out) to the main page, and a separate tab opens on my browser. Thus, my pop-up blocker is being over-ridden.

At least it's not porn. But what's up with the pregnancy ad?

I now get the pop-ups not only when opening a thread in the forum, but also while navigating in the photo database...

Son of a gun, so am I - time for another note to the support folks.

Instead of the moderators responding (they are only the messenger) somebody from Demand Media should speak to this - this is totally unacceptable.

I just spent 8 hours in IT today having my my computer re-imaged because of malware. I have no idea if it was a result of this or not, but when I visit anet at work and this happens, I get a bunch of threat warnings.

so sad our passion is being killed by this.

Seriously, I'm still getting unindated with ridiculous ads....In all honesty, how long should this problem take to fix??? I keep hearing the mods say to take a screenshot of illegal/obtrusive ads, care to define that?

I'm starting to wonder if this "problem" is only a problem for the users of the site and not the owners as it must be some sort of revenue generator to have gone on for this long. I'm the furthest thing from being tech savvy but I would have to think that if the owner/operators of this site no longer wanted these pop-ups they'd no longer be here.

As mentioned in the previous thread Demand Media are doing something so that premium members don't see the pop unders. I've provided them with some of your accounts so they can work on a solution. Some advertisements have been removed and Google have shut down at least 2 of the main hosts of the malware advertisements so they won't appear anymore.

Quoting mikesairways (Reply 6):

You should not be seeing any advertisements as a first class member and though advertisements were seen late last week a fix was put in place so that no advertisements appear for first class members and it has held. As you noted a message to support with the advertisement displaying when you're logged in as first class along with a URL would be appreciated.

May I ask do you only see this on your work computer or while you're at home as well?

Thanks and regards

I'll check when I get home this evening. I did send a screen shot to the support team that shows that I was checked in as well as highlighting the URL of the ad. The image of the ad is actually blocked by my IT with a Security Warning.

Thanks.

I realise you tend to just close down threads where enquiries are made about the advertising and popups...I see one from a few days ago where people reported malware pop ups and you claimed it was fixed, although maybe only for First Class members...charming.

Today I am continually getting a pop up claiming my computer is infected etc with further pop ups demanding I scan my computer etc.

The URL of the window or tab which pops up is:

http://windows-system-rescue.securit...tTRojanRootKITBotNETonref=1&affid=

Is this considered acceptable for a mere premium member...it beggars belief this is one of the few forums I've paid to contribute to and it bombards me with more pop ups than all the rest combined, legitimate or otherwise!?

Demand Media are being extremely foolish in dealing with srv123.com at all, directly or indirectly. A simple google search shows that they are notorious for being providers and facilitators of all sorts of malware and crapware, in addition to the obvious annoyance factor.

Whatever DM are doing or pretending to be doing, it's not happening yet, because I'm still blocking a pop-under or two every time I visit a.net. Which is now only once or twice a day, thank you not at all. I definitely recommend URL-blocking srv123.com until DM gives up on this whole idiotic idea.

These pop-ups would be OK to me if they were somewhat related to aviation. I am a man, I do not need to know 13 ways to tell if I am pregnant. I also do not need pasta recipes, if I did, I would go to a cooking site and not a freaking aviation site.

We've conveyed every advertisement that we wish to have removed from the site to DM and they informed us they were looking to block them for premium members. A block was put on late last week but it didn't hold and I can't update as to why it's not back yet but will do so once I have more from DM. We can only go off their guidance and continue to ask for sites like srv123.com to be blocked and not used which we've done too. As these are coming from a 3rd party that slows down the process but they are working on it.

Thanks and regards

Sorry - I don't care if they are good ads - as a Premium Member I should never get pop ups or Pop unders. Indeed they are one of the least effective means of delivering ads. They drive away visitors.

I posted this several times and never heard back:

When I search for all photos within a US State, I get the same number of photos as when I search for Other airports in this state.

For Example, when I search "USA - Alaska" I get (as of this moment) 8,920 photos.
When I search "Other airports in USA - Alaska" I get the same number of 8,920.

Shouldn't this 2nd search result in only airports not already listed in the drop down, and therefore be a lower number of photos? This issue seems to be occurring with other States as well. Is this normal or an error?

Which sounds as if the owners of airliners.net are not only aware of, but actually initially requested such ads in the first place and only after an uproar from paying members are they supposedly going to do something about it....it's been 2 weeks now and we're all dealing with the same pop ups, premium members or not so I'm not sure where the truth in that statement lies.

If it's any help, I'm using Chrome, and I've installed HTTP Switchboard to stop these rouge popups while maintaining the functionality of the site. It seems to be working so far.

Oh, and of note: Holy crap, the number of ad servers being trapped coming through this site is incredible.

Hello All,

Thanks to those who have helped us by sending emails with screenshots to support we appreciate it and the feedback that you're no longer experiencing the advertisements.

To update Demand Media have set it again so that no paying members should see a pop up or pop under and it appears to be holding. I created a Premium account and I've not seen a single such advertisement so it appears to be working from the user side too.

If you're logged in and are still seeing such advertisements please let me know. Additionally Demand Media have met with success in removing virus scan advertisements and the connection to srv123 has been replaced.

Thanks and regards

Thanks Kiffy and I am sorry you've encountered this again. I went back to DM and they checked it again and are certain their settings are right but they understand you've seen it. It's disappointing that some are experiencing it while others are not.

I would like to ask for your patience again as we'll have to wait through the weekend before they can next take a look at it. In the meantime please continue to send any that you come across to [email protected] with the URL and a screen shot. My thanks to those of you who have done so already it is appreciated.

I'm still receiving pop-unders from coreclickhoo. I added it to my hosts file, so it at least won't redirect to whatever intended ad is supposed to be appear, but you can see from this screenshot that the URL is definitely originating from A.net:

I have to say that this site is deteriorating into a complete utter mess, fast.

- Totally out of control advertisement spam
- Continued use of ridiculous "custom made" forum software which is both limiting and is an aesthetic nightmare
- Mobile UNfriendly site (forums)

Don't know why I paid for this.

The content is so engaging and rich on this site, but the infrastructure is so unbelievably lacking. It's really a shame.

To be fair, the technical quality and stability of the A.net forums has improved dramatically since Demand Media took ownership of the site. As nice as it would be to have a more modern forum setup that is much more mobile friendly, the major problem with such a project is that there is likely no easy way to migrate ALL of the forum content into a new system. The benefit of a modern, mobile-friendly forum community would most likely come at the cost of losing the past 16 years' worth of forum content (or, at the very least, the old forum being retained in an archive-only format).

Granted, I'm probably "old" in the fact that I still do most of my Interweb browsing from a computer rather than through my smartphone, so I don't have any issues with the forums aside from a few creature comforts that would be nice.

My only issue is with the pop-under ads that circumvent AdBlock and browser-based popup blockers.

I just noticed the following:

I received an E-mail via the "contact user" form. When I replied, I replied to this person's private E-mail, but also got the following E-mail:

"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

Now I'm pretty sure this person does not work at Demand Media, so I have no clue where that E-mail address is coming from. I checked the original E-mal and it said this:

While this would probably take a little time to do, this isn't much of a technical challenge. The forum data can definitely be ported—it's a non-issue. The data exists in a database. Scripts can be used to restructure/reorganize the data into whatever format a new forum system would require.

Like I mentioned in a previous thread, I am more than willing to donate my time in helping with a technical solution.

We did some testing ourselves and it might also be advisable to log out, clear your cookies and log back in as it appears that it maybe a caching issue. I cannot provide an exact time as to when DM will block the parenting advertisements though it should be soon.

Mobile UNfriendly site (forums)

Just to update DM are working on phase 2 of the mobile site and it will be forum friendly with the ability to quote text from other members so it will be just like the desktop version but it requires a lot of work due to the aged infrastructure.

Not sure what happened there but thank you for working with me and I'm happy to hear that it's back to normal for you.

Thanks and regards

Paul

Someone obviously thinks FAs, Pilots, Av Geeks, frequent travellers, ramp rats and such and such are all pregnant or making their partners pregnant on a VERY frequent basis.

From Wikipedia: "The company (DM) employs an algorithm that identifies topics with high advertising potential" so, hmmm, is that big computer in the sky really on to something on Anet?

And I am editing this because the minute I posted "Pregnancy Eating" popped under as if on cue! lol.

It would be really nice if the website ownership would issue a declarative statement that they intend to eliminate all pop-under ads for paying members.

So far it seems like every response from Paul or DM says they will eliminate ads from the specific sites we report, but I haven't seen anything that reaffirms that we shouldn't be seeing any pop-up/pop-under ads (if I've missed such a statement, please feel free to quote the post).

I just feel like DM is trying to pull a trick where they will eliminate the ads we keep reporting only to slip other ones in their place. Whether or not it's a third-party ad service shouldn't matter that much, because DM should be able to terminate that service should they so desire to.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.
