International Aviation Threads Not So Popular?

Since being on for a year now many International threads haven't been responded to and haven't got so much attention. It seems even that a lot of the people on this website like threads about Domestic US service. What are your thoughts on this?

You mean the threads that are appropriate to the country you are residing in, or are from? Which international threads? For example, the ones that are about aircraft types and delivery are responded to pretty well, and favourite aircraft type etc, because they are cross nationality and people can respond with their thoughts on the 787, A380 etc.

The MH370 mulit-part thread gets a lot of international mix of discussion, this is an international thread, probably an exception.

The Australian Aviation thread gets a lot of discussion from Australians, and occasionally, some other countries too.
I read these the most as I can relate to the discussion, but I also read other countries domestic threads sometimes, but I don't contribute, but some do, for example, people who fly to the US may have something to contribute to that discussion.

My other thought is that the USA is the most represented country (has most members) on here (I am sure, correct me if I am wrong) therefore the discussion and threads may dominate or lean towards US in the numbers of threads and amount of discussion, in that regard.

The problem is you started too many threads about international airlines today, you can't expect them all to do well.

Ever since this site got sold off to am American company its gotten more Americanised for some reason, nothing wrong with that but the question is didnt you people have forums of your own prior to the takeover, I doubt this once small Swediish site was the hub of world aviation discussions, surprised British or American forums werent as popular.

Prepare to be surprised. Pretty sure even back then this Swedish site was the most popular aviation forum. Probably even more popular, post-count-wise, than today.

IMHO when I joined way back in 2001, it was still one of, or the, premier aviation site to read, or be on. There were less members, but I am not surprised it is where it is today, with the number of members and visits etc. Regardless of all the issues, it has a winning formula.

As mentioned in post above, I think there is a leaning towards 'Americanisation' for other reasons, on here - e.g. number of members, travel destinations, Boeing..

What is this nonsense? I've always seen aviation as a very international topic. These terms "you people" and "forums of your own" seem very narrow-minded to me. (Unless you are being facetious, in which case, forgive my overreaction.)

A.net has been one of the most popular commercial aviation sites since the beginning. The fact that it was designed and based in Sweden was largely irrelevant.

I don't see how this could be the case given that 99% of the content on this site is made by the users. It might be that a larger and larger percentage of users are coming from the USA, which would skew the content toward American topics, but this has little to do with the fact that the owner is an American company.

More significantly, the language of this site is English, so of course there is going to be a bias toward topics from countries of the English-speaking world. That bias is slightly unfortunate, but given the number of threads on topics from outside the English-speaking world, I think there is still a healthy representation of international topics on these forums.

I share your frustration. I recently started a thread on Tunisair, which quickly fell to the bottom of the first page, then to the second page. But eventually, someone (from Tunisia in fact) revived the thread, and I got a lot of interesting insight from people in the know on TU. It is frustrating to see a gazillion threads on uninteresting regional routes in the US, but if you're patient, people will seek out threads on "international" topics.

The choice of the thread contribution depends on the interest of the Member....

The Indian Aviation thread is quite popular amongst those interested in the news from that location...

More the variety better the choice....

If the majority of members are from the US it is not surprising that a lot of threads are about US airlines, airports and incidents. Wherever people are from, they are most likely to comment on matters they are more familiar with.

Another factor may be that the language used is English. Members from non-English speaking countries, though having a command of English, may be more comfortable contributing to forums in those countries. Interestingly enough, the forum that does have a fair number of contributions from outside the US is Trip Reports.

I tried to start a thread on Japanese aviation, but 1) my personal knowledge is limited to NH, JL, and HND. Not anything else, so I couldn't contribute much and 2) there are very few Japanese contributors to A.net. I think localized threads like my other thread, the Arizona Aviation Thread, do quite well.

I would suggest making the threads as general as possible as more posters would be interested in it rather than a thread about something specific. Not all U.S. threads do well either - I have attempted to start a thread on Iowa aviation which died off after not a whole lot of posts. It just depends on how many people are interested in the topic and also who are viewing the forum during the time the thread is on the first or second page.

As others have said the largest percentage of members on the site are from the United States and thus most likely to be interested in U.S aviation (though not all of course).
