Probably a good idea, but doesn't help this problem. The problem is when I search with reg, I am not shown the line number and exact type in results...or are the search results shown differently in different search options (Basic/Advanced)?

On the search results page, the only place I see an option to move on to the next page of photos (or the next, next or next) is at the bottom of the page. Can this also be added to the top like it used to be? Thanks.

Found a bug around when I'm logged out. If I log in and go to airliners.net homepage, I stay logged in. If I use my bookmark that goes straight to the Civil Aviation Forum, I'm not logged in.

Still no progress on the login/logout issue? It's amazing to me that something so simple can be so baffling to the inept crew at Demand Media.

I just want to say, good work on the upgrade which, frankly, was needed. Initially the site was a mess but you have clearly been listening to feedback, and it is now almost excellent.

Not sure what has been said about on previous pages, but I am really disappointed that you reverted back to the old layout for the top 5 photos. Having the big, dynamic presentation of the best new photos was the best way to be greeted by the site - it was my favourite part of the upgrade. New visitors would have been immediately impressed. Now you have to squint to see the photo contents, and it looks very much like it was coded two decades ago. My opinion is that this was a damaging move to try and appease the complainers who won't be happy with anything but the old site reinstated.

Apart from that I am pretty happy with the site now. I am still waiting to be able to open photos to large size in one click instead of two, and the captions need to be immediately beneath the photo, not requiring scrolling down. And annoyingly, twice I have been logged out after typing a long forum post, which means once I hit 'post' I have to log in again, and everything that I wrote is gone.

USAIRWAYS321, the login issue is on the fix list, but part of the issue is in phpbb, I have the same issue on another forum I run. Logging in grants access both to Airliners main site and the phpbb forum so it's a two part login which makes it a bit more complex. And I also advise you to keep it civil in your posts.

Benjik, the large photo presentation affected photo views, which is very important to the photographers, without photographers, no Airliners.net. In your main profile you can set an option to always display large images.

The "Remember me" button still doesnt work and I´m always relegated to the homepage rather than to the topic I wanted to post in.
Thats annoying, and almost two months after the massive website modification not acceptable anymore.

Another fault is that ads are overlying the upper part of the forum pages. I always have to make the browser window as small as possible to make them disappear.

The biggest issue is that some moderators have gone on a "locking spree" and started locking threads with 200 posts despite that they are only 5 pages long.
5 pages are nothing for a PhpBB based forum. The forum can handle much longer threads then that. 50-100 pages shouldn't be a problem.

Locking a thread on the new forum after just 5 pages is really unnecessary and it disrupts the discussion flow in a thread.

I had made a report on a post, and I got notification that the report was closed. It shows up in the notification counter on the top of the page, and clicking on the "report closed" item doesn't do anything. And the notification counter keeps showing that there is one notification and there is no way to clear that. That bug needs to be fixed

I have not come through here in while, I use to visit A.net daily. Today is my first time seeing / experiencing these new changes. So far I am not a fan. Seems the forum is less active as well. Either way lets give it some time I guess.

Or...

We just go back to the old Flight Sim .bmp 737 overhead panel that use to line the top of the webpage. (am old now)

I think the latest improvements restored a lot off the old practicallity of the traditional.

Still miss the high information density of a.net.
- A.net users are not typical internet users.
- On average more visually orientated and techie, probably mostly man
- specialist that love as much info as possible with the boundaries of their screen(s)

Really miss the old site too. I understood where to go to get the information I wanted.

Example....where do I go to see a list of top uploaders for the past 30 days? 365 days? Where do I go to see bar graphs of my upload stats?

There are many other things I miss from the old site that I can't find anymore. Due to the destruction of A.net, I have uploaded only 1 photo in the past 3 months or so. I'm also noticing the traffic is way down from before as well.

Is there anyone working on restoring the functionality that the old A.net used to have?
I'd rather be flying.

One of the niftier features of the old site was the flags available to each username - instead of a profile picture which provides no context here and now.

Any plans to bring them back?

It seems its following the general trend of Demand Media as a whole over the last few years- a slow, steady decline. What are the causes of this?

I'm sure this will be deleted.

Did anyone else note an issue with the photo's number of views ? I do not speak about the fact that the site is currently less visited than a few time ago but some pictures' views are clearly blocked and see an increase by 5 views from time to time (number goes from 15 to 20 to 25 etc...)
Photos ID 3920359 or 3926345 for example are concerned.

I think that hits are not counting at all on many images. They are evidently working on new images but do not seem to be counting at all on older ones.

If you search for anything with a number, the number of hits features in any search which explains many anomalous results. I pointed this out a while back but checked last night by looking at a couple of my own images that had 999 hits. The hits have not increased in about 24 hours though I clicked them and I have checked since and they have not gone up.

Hi there

Views increase in increments of 5 views at a time and not live like when the site first changed so that is why it's taking longer for view counts to increase. Hope that clarifies the situation for you. If they remain stuck please let us know and we'll have the developers take a look into the matter for you.

Hi John

Requiring 5 views before processing reduces the amount of work needed on the servers, that is why.

Thanks and regards

OK, thank you for the reply. But for the two pics mentioned above ( 3920359 or 3926345 ) it is hard to believe that they have only 10 and 20 views after several days in the database, I am convinced that there is an issue here.

hi guys (Crew), well after all the grizzeling, I have slowly found my peace with the new format, thanks for your patience and effort over the past couple of months!
Without reading this entire thread again, any News on the flags in the Forums? Especially with all the new users, it would really help the discussion & often understanding posters motives & opinions . Do we stand a chance of getting those back sometime soon & next to our profile pics/avatars in the posts? thx n cheers
Edit / PS: if we cant get them into the Posts, what about having them when I click on a users Profile at least??

Any update on two major issues?

1) Dead links in old format - both to photos and to photo pages? They are still dead (links to photo pages just sends you to main Anet page and jpg links are 404). Can we have a definite answer if this will be addressed or that it's of no interest for DM so we must now just delete our webpages and blogs.

2) Shitty quality of thumbnails of Top 5 photos and their size totally unbalanced with the rest of the main page (all other parts has bigger previews and better quality of rendering). Any hope some person with at least primary school education in design and usability will visit developers and spend couple of hours on page layout?

PS: How do you think, this thread became more and more dead because people loosing hope or because they are progressively more and more happy with new A.net?

Good morning,

The last few days I noticed some very annoying ads from Justpremium. See screenshot below. I have this at my Windows 7 PC with both IE and Chrome.
Is anybody else experiencing this too? Did the Airliners.net crew decided to implement this? If yes, please remove it ASAP. Thank you.

It's still on the list, but there are bigger fish to fry first. I've added your last sentence to the list entry as a suggestion.
