Rejected photos?

Tue Jun 21, 2016 9:33 am

I'll assume many photogs include processing details in the image name for reference.
Just having a shot rejected I went to see what version it was so I could make changes. I see my image name is gone. I now have no idea what processing I had done to it.
Can we please leave photo name as it was uploaded?

I've never heard of this and I'm not sure how many people actually do this. In any case, I don't know the answer to your question, so I've asked DM/the developers. I'll get back to you when I have an answer.

Kas, I did something similar. Since Lightroom is non destructive and I work with virtual copies for most major changes, I have naming presets that include the date the edited JPEG was exported. That way I can easily find the specific edit in my LR catalog if it gets rejected. Not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have unmolested filenames.

Ok, never really noticed that when screening. I'm still awaiting the answer (it's night time in Cali at the moment), but I'll let you know when I receive word. If it turns out that they are indeed altered after a rejection, I will put it on the list.

Developer answer:
"Yes, since we now store all photos in DB, filenames are changed to match photo IDs immediately on upload. Please let me know how retaining original filename would help in screening/rejection process so we can come up with a solution, whether it's storing original filename value or something else. (To clarify, image names are not change upon rejection)."

The way I read it, rejected photos don't have their filename changed.

So to clarify - photos in the queue have the filenames changed, but once they are rejected they revert back to the filename they were uploaded with?

I have one photo in the queue at the moment, so I can confirm that the name is changed on upload. It hasn't been screened (or rejected, heh) yet so I cannot comment on the veracity of the latter part.

I don't know the exact working either, so please let me know the outcome once it has been screened.

No. Photo name changed at upload to match photo id and then never changed again no matter was it rejected or not - so it's how I read it.

For me more interesting is another issue: my uploaded photos are reduced 2-3fold (from ~900 kb up to ~400-200 kb) in volume (i.e. they lost up to 70% of information and it means sharpening and quality issues) and some of them get upsized up to 1920x1280 (and it means added compression artefacts and banding in the sky). So what about screening then? Is it still in "testing" stage? Or is it new site "improvement" we must accept and live with?

I'm talking about photos still in queue and about some already screened after "major site ugrade". All of them was uploaded before 14th of June.
