Forbidden topics on non-aviation

Sun May 12, 2019 4:07 pm

This morning there was a thread discussing US preparations to start war against Iran. The thread has disappeared (not locked, disappeared). Are there topics that are forbidden to be discussed on non-aviation? Or is that a topic that is forbidden to be discussed as well?

It could be that it simply degraded into a name calling shouting match. When discussed properly, those topics are not "forbidden". Israel is discussed and those threads are fine, for the most part.
You bet I'm pumped!!! I just had a green tea!!!

This thread had been deleted for being a low quality thread. It contained barely half a sentence in the initial post. Subsequently it was deleted. This had nothing to do with the topic in itself.

I can agree that the opening post was too short but the discussion that ensued was OK. There was one post complaining about how topics like this had turned non-aviation into a sh*tshow, but that post should simply have been deleted and the poster blocked. If posters like that can get a thread deleted then it is very easy for them to prevent sensitive topics from being discussed on this forum.

We aren't going to delete a thread starting post without deleting the thread. A thread full of replies confuses people, because they don't know what's actually being discussed. The few times in the past where it's happened accidently, it's led to a lot of confusion. So, if the thread starting post needs to be deleted, then unfortunately the entire thread goes. There's nothing stopping someone else from restarting the topic, or the original poster from starting the thread again...obviously just in a way that conforms with posting standards.

As the moderator who deleted the thread, it was deleted because it did not comply with posting standards. As this is a discussion forum some context needs to be provided so a discussion can take place. That didn't happen here, there was only 3 words in the opening post therefore when a user starts a thread we expect that they put some effort into providing what they would like to discuss. If it is something factual a link supporting the facts should be provided. We also place a higher scrutiny on the opening post as that sets the discussion for the whole thread. As the post did not comply with what was expected the whole topic was removed which is done anytime an opening post does not meet the forum rules
