Russian military aircraft always featured on front page

Thu Nov 07, 2019 6:30 pm

Is there some Airliners.Net requirement that there must always be at least one photograph of a Russian military aircraft (usually a fighter or helicopter) in the Top 5 and/or Photographer’s Choice at any given moment? Don’t get me wrong, the pictures are generally superb, and no I’m not arguing with view counts, but for a website called Airliners.Net, it does seem that whoever or whatever assembles these choices day to day has an overwhelming preference to display MiGs and Sukhois instead of Boeings and Airbuses.

This site also features photos of military planes and helicopters.

This very topic has been discussed previously (on several ocassions), and frankly it should be in Site Related forum. :)

If it isn't Russian, it's American, or some other military stuff. Despite the name, the site has not banned posting of military stuff, so there will always be military stuff, and most of what you see stays where it is because people keep looking at it and ensuring it ranks higher.

Luckily, no one is forcing you to click on the pictures and look at them, you can easily just scroll past the pictures you don't want to look at.

Maybe we prefer good looking machines instead of boring As or Bs. I can't believe people see Russians in everything. Too much media exposure lately?
Flying at the cruising altitude is (mostly) boring. I wish all flights were nothing but endless take offs and landings every 10 minutes or so.

It's definitely not always I can personally say this is factually wrong thread topic. Some of the highest rated and active users photograph those planes, so I think whatever alogrithm it uses those are the most likely to get chosen as "good images". Many are quite amazing. Much cooler than a 319 sitting on the ground. Some of those photographs are amazing as the access they get to take them makes them is impossible to replicate. As others stated this site is alot more than civil aviation even if that's what you use it for. The photographs section in particular has alot of active users on other types of aviation.

Photos are sorted only by views. If Russian military aircraft get more views than other types they will get to the front page. No bias, just what the users like and click.

I recall that there were hardly any military aircraft posted on this website before 9/11. At some point thereafter, the military aircraft started showing up here. i don't mind it, although I understand where the comment is coming from.

It may be due to what BEG2IAH wrote, I’m not into the money to noise making pointy planes, but the variety of passenger planes is to conform, white logo planes just doesn’t tickle like the old liveries. So for a pax plane to make topm5 it has to have something that makes it stand out in the crowd.
