Feature request: line wrap signatures

Fri Nov 15, 2019 3:18 pm

What: Allow the forum to wrap after a comma in a signature.

Why: Several users have a list of aircraft or airlines, comma separated, in their signatures. These lists can be quite long, often much longer than the browser window is wide. The forum software does not wrap this, which causes the entire page to be rendered wider than the display, making it much harder to read, especially on a smaller screen.

Example: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1431097&start=50#p21793521

The forum software does wrap on spaces, for example: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1434939#p21790387

It would be helpful if the software can wrap signatures on a comma, so that the page can render according to the window size.

Thank you

I think the easier solution would be to contact the specific users that cause these issues to use spaces, instead of waiting for a forum fix.

I do, politely, but some simply ignore.

We actually do attempt to contact users regularly. I have done so for a few years now — since we moved to the new site. Some are receptive, others ignore us. They aren't violating any rules, so if they choose to ignore our requests, then unfortunately that's their choice.

Likewise, a few users I've contacted happily updated theirs.

Nevertheless, rendering stuff off-screen is a bug, hence my request.

Right, it is. However, I wouldn't count on a fix being made. We have much higher priority items that have been waiting for two or three years to be addressed with no hope in sight. I wish there were a better answer, but unfortunately this seems to be our reality.

Easy solution: disable the display of signatures in your user control panel. They are annoying anyway, no matter how they are written.

Excellent, I didn't know that was possible. Thanks!
