It's still February, one more day until march.

The moderator who maintains those threads lives in Australia, where it's about two hours until March. Close enough, I'd say.

Perhaps that moderator should have a gentle reminder about how time zones work, as they are locking threads almost an entire day early for much of the planet.

Maybe you should have a gentle reminder that the moderators are volunteers and may have a live outside a.net. He might have had a better idea to spend the sunday than to sit in front of the screen and lock threads.

Seriously, what's the big deal here?

I think with the exception of big threads like the ongoing 737 max grounding, the regional aviation threads should be annual basis. Or why does Ireland need a monthly thread? It's also not streamlined, some regionals are monthly, others annual threads. Shouldn't it be identical over the entire forum?

No, some "high frequency" threads which are usually getting a lot of posts per months are on a monthly basis. All the others are on a annual basis with some exceptions for new threads.

With the old forum software there was the rule to lock threads when they were approaching 300 posts. With the new software this rule became obsolete. However some users still wanted to get threads locked to avoid having to browse through +20 pages and more. Whereas some other users preferred to have single threads no matter how long they were. Moderators discussed this issue and the solution was the current procedure.
