Why was Star Wars Canyon topic locked?

Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:01 pm

This topic - in the Military Forum - seems to have been locked. I was wondering why? I had just added an update - although it doesn't appear, and while it doesn't get a ton of hits, I know there are plenty of photographers who would like to keep updated on the situation out there. It was and could be again a rare place to photograph aircraft from a distinct view. Thanks.

Sure, I didn't lock it but thread bumps of threads dormant over 6 months are not allowed without prior approval. When alerted/ discovered, we delete the post and lock the thread.

So basically a thread dormant for six months gets locked - period? Does this mean if there is an update someone should start a new thread - which seems counterproductive? And shouldn’t the person who provided the update be notified it has been deleted and the topic locked?

That's been the rule for about five years, since we migrated to the new site. The old site automatically locked dormant threads after three weeks, so we felt that six months was a good compromise. There are still a lot of longtime users who get upset about old threads being bumped, which is the reason for the rule.

1g. Thread Bumps
2. Threads that have been inactive for more than six months (meaning the last post in the thread was made more than six months from the current date) are not to be commented on, and should remain permanently dormant unless the user first seeks approval from a Moderator to post in that thread.
3. Threads that have comments posted after more than six months of inactivity will be locked, and all new comments will be deleted for housekeeping purposes.
4. If you would like to add a comment to a thread that has been inactive for more than six months and is relevant to the subject (such as new information has become available), you are required to seek approval from a Moderator to reply to the thread. Alternatively, you can start a new thread and include
a link to the older thread in your post. To request this approval, please email moderators@airliners.net with your reason to bump or reopen a thread.

The rule should be extended to a year with Military threads. Information from the Military tends to become available much more slowly.

And Airliners should contact the member whose information was deleted so they have the option of restarting the thread if interested.
