Clean-up in Civil Aviation?

Thu Jan 20, 2022 4:01 pm

The entire first page of that section of the forum is clogged with "Aviation at... [airport code]", "Deliveries of... [name of airliner model]", "Traffic at...", and so on. Maybe spin those off to a separate section so they don't interfere with the actual forum threads? Something like "Airlines, deliveries, airport traffic, production lists"?

We don't have the ability to create new forums. Only the developers can do that, and it's unlikely that it will happen.

If it is “clogging” the front page it must be interesting to the forum. Non interesting topics usually drop down quickly.

:checkmark: We understand the frustration some people have for the first week of the year when we're refreshing so many threads, but it usually sorts itself out pretty quickly. After that, whatever shows up on the first page is totally based on how people are participating. Not much we can do about that, nor should we want to. Spinning topics off into another forum (even if we could do that) isn't necessarily in everyone's best interest, because clearly a lot of people participate in those aforementioned threads.

Thanks. Just a thought. If so many people are interested in those particular topics, it may be all the more reason to separate it into a dedicated forum section. I'm sure it's not such a big deal for "developers" to do that.

You say that, but we as a moderating team haven't spoken directly to a developer in at least four years. We used to be in regular contact with a dedicated dev, but we don't have one anymore and haven't for many years. There will be no changes requiring their input for the foreseeable future. If you're frustrated by that, then believe me, we absolutely are. We as a.net crew have a lot invested in these forums, so no one is as frustrated as we are over the lack of forward progress.

How about you go on strike. That's the only way they will do anything.

Yeah, and that "anything" will be to hire a 13-year-old boy from Bombay.

None of us want to hurt the site or drive away users. This place matters a lot to us, and we've all put in hundreds of hours over many years to do our part. We have an obligation to hold things together as best we can until the situation hopefully improves.

Cripes, that's terrible. And I bet even if some of the moderators had developer knowledge they wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the servers or the codebase.

So you have an legacy unsupported site.

That wouldn’t lead to anything because the moderators aren’t paid positions, among many other reasons.

Those are the bread and butter type discussions of that forum.
