As far as looks are concerned, what looks better to you the 777 or A330, why?

Both are great - it depends on the airline and how they configure their airplanes. The Airbus lineup has a more graceful look to it - the A319 on up. The Boeing products have always been known for their no-nonsense approach to design. Both of these companies are successful.

Livery does a lot to an airplane. Some liveries look better on A330 then on 777 and vice versa.

But the 777 engines are far better looking then the hairblowers most A330's are equiped with.

They are both nice-looking planes, but the A330 for sure is more shapely.

As far as engines...I believe the A330 offers the same engine types as the 777, maybe just with different fans as the intakes on the A330 engines are smaller than those on the 777.

They're both great looking aircraft but I have to say that the 777 is better looking than the A330 because of its awesome engines that screams POWER!!

I think the A330 is a great looking aircraft...

But I don't think it has near the grace and magnifacent look as the 777...

Also, the 777 looks so much more powerful and sharp...

I think the 777 wins by far on this comparsion, but both of these aircraft don't come near the most beautiful, powerful, and graceful looking bird in the skies....

 Big thumbs up

the 777 by far. The 330 I think looks plastic, and that pure power look to the 777 and the wings. None of these are as graceful as this bird though:

A330 = feminine. Petite and graceful like a ballerina.
B777 = masculine. Big and mascular like a heavyweight boxer.

I like the overall shape of A330s. And I also like that A330 can be equiped w/ diff. types of engines (diff. means that I can identify the engine manufacturers by just looking at the engines.) A330s equiped w/ diff. engines have its own characters.

But 777's GE90 is really great. It just looks better than RR trent 800.

so, overall, A330 wins.

I agree, they both look great. The Boeing is, intimidating, beefy and ... LARGE. The Airbus is pretty and graceful. Although Boeing is my favorite manufacturer, I have to admit that I have an Airbus high in my pretty list. (They do make beautiful planes don't they?)

Pretty List

1) Boeing 727-200
2) Airbus A340
3) Boeing / Douglas MD-11
4) Boeing 747-400
5) Boeing 777-200
6) Concorde
7) Airbus A320

Butt Ugly List (No offense to anyone intended)

1) BAC 111
2) Boeing 767 - 300 / 400
3) Boeing 757 - 300
4) Airbus 380
5) Dehavilland Dash-7
6) Airbus 300
7) Boeing 747SP

OK, thanks go on to the next post...

It's arguing over such subtleties, since the the basic subsonic 150-350-passenger airliner design is so common now anyway, with the disappearance of trijets and T-tails from the production line. Just smaller-scale esthetics discussions about which one has a pointy-or dolphin-nose, monster-looking engines or just regular-looking ones, winglet preferences or no, and so on for landing gear bogies, wingboxes, window shapes etc. And of course livery.

Me I think the 777 engines look oversized (aircraft are supposed to look graceful, seems to me), and I like the winglet design element as they highlight the wings themselves. But a great-looking plane, just like the 330.

And I like the Megatops way more than the early 747s, which sort of looked more lumpy-headed (as opposed to just having a taller fuselage in the front)

Both aircafts are great. But the shape of an Airbus A330 is in my opinion more elegant then the Boeing 777s.

I personally lke the Boeing 777 better than the Airbus A330. The A330 just looks so "automated", and it seems like just a huge mass-trasit can. I in fact like 777's large engines, as I think they fit pretty good with the huge fuselage, and I don't think a winglet would look nice on it. It has some kind of art, although I think the trijets look much much better. Also, my father has flown on both types, and have found the 777 much more quiet than the A330. Many of my friends who have flown both have also agreed with this.

Both are nice-looking aircraft. (Although I do prefer the quad-engined 747, Concorde, 340 and 380.)

There are specific things that do irk me with each one, though:

- Like many others, I still can´t get used to the "hairdrier" engines on the Airbuses. "Real" turbofans with shorter bypass cowls just look nicer.

- The 777 fuselage looks like it had been glued together from mismatched parts. Both nose and tail sections don´t connect smoothly to the main tube. The curves look crooked. Ugly. Unelegant.

My guess is that they took one of the smaller plane´s cockpits (767?) and made some kind of "adapter" to fit it to the 777´s main tube. At least they had the tact to leave out the neck bolts...  Acting devilish

Great landing gear and engines, though!  Smile

For peformance, I will prefer the B777. Both planes are great. I agree, the B777 looks "manly and fit" while the A330 looks "pretty elegant".

But my favourite still remains as the B747-400  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I like the looks of the A330 and the A340, but I think that they are generic-looking to some degree and I don't care for the huge taper on the tail. The 747 obviously has a unique aspect to it, and the 777 has some, with the tail fin shape, the huge engines, etc. It seems that all of boeing's planes have unique characteristics to each model. The Airbus seems to have a design with few special elements (aside from the avionics/cockpit), but there's something to the models that make me think they are really beautiful. Blah blah blah, the 777 is better in my opinion...

...But the concorde is better!

Great replies... keep them comming!

Personally, I do agree with those who desribed a 777 as being masculine while the A330 as being femanin! Or as P&M wonderfly put it 777 is a whopper while A330 is a filet mignon Big grin

But I must and will go with the 777 withought a doubt.. I mean just look at it!! It is 2nd only to the 747-400. (Boeing just have that nack!)

I like the 777 because it is a totally unique aircraft, unlike the A330, wich seems, in my view, to be an A340 minus two engines. The 777 is fun to fly in as well! Especially on United! Especially because channel 9 works on all of their 777s!

340 is the best...

Sorry, I just don't want to criticize one of two great thing. What I don't like in 777 is long slope on its 'head'.

...and, out of 2 777s, -200 is better, much more balanced.

There aren´t any body parts flying yet. As long as it stays that way, there´s no harm done. And the "A vs B" topic is interesting to a point. A little competition is good for everyone...  Wink/being sarcastic

It´s just the childish and personal mud-slinging that´s extremely annoying. Which I didn´t see in this thread so far. So what´s the problem?

Well, as I said earlier (https://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/542723/), I mostly prefer the looks of quad-engined planes if it comes to looks. (Actually, with the 380 I can´t be certain, yet.)

But both the 330 and the 777 have points going for them. And flaws, in my opinion.

But, as the old japanese saying goes, nothing can be perfect unless there´s a little imperfection in it...  Wink/being sarcastic

In my opinion the Boeing 777 is an excelent aircraft for longhaul routes. The 777s family have a good confort in the passenger cabin better than the A340/A330 family. Also the Boeing 777 has a elegent form and it has two powerful engines. The 777 combine the confort of the 747 with the most advanced tecnologies aboard like the fly by wire. The Boeing 777 is great in all things. And the longer range is better than the original family.

The 330 sure looks better - yet I prefer the 777 by far (roomier cabin, better design, plus : It has an actual yoke (or two) in the cockpit). So for beauty the 330 wins, for everything else the 777 does.
