What's Your Favourite Aviation-related Quote?

Mon Aug 20, 2001 8:40 pm

What are people's favourite aviation related quote? Let's have one humourous one, and one profound one.

For humourous, Herb Kelleher, "If the Wright brother were alive today Wilbur would have to fire Orville to reduce costs"

For profound, "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." -- Leonardo da Vinci

"If god wanted jets to fly, he would have given them propellers."

--------------------------------------------

Posted these last week, quotes from O'Hare ATC. These are the highlights for those who missed out last time.

"Climb like your life depends on it...because it does."

"Listen up, gentlemen, or something's gonna happen that none of us wants to see.”

"We were told Rwy 9...we'll take out the 14R approach plate."
"Captain you got sixty miles to take it out...have a ball."

"Approach, SWA436, you want us to turn right to 090?"
"No, I want your brother to turn. Just do it and don't argue."

"The first officer says he's got you in sight."
"Roger, the first officer's cleared for a visual approach runway 27 Right...you continue on that 180 heading and descend to three thousand."

"How far behind traffic are we?"
"Three miles."
"That doesn't look like three miles to us!"
"You're a mile and a half from him, he's a mile and a half from you...that's three miles."

Cathay Pacific Airways is experiencing pilot shortage,
yet they have thousands of aplicants....?  Nuts

I am not experienced enough as a commercial pilot to fly a light aircraft in freight operations, yet I can easily get a job teaching others how to fly....?  Nuts

"Anytime you see one of my airplanes in the air, it is overloaded!", Lineous Mac McGee. Founder of McGee Airways which later became Alaska Airlines. He was in the middle of chewing out the first CAA inspector in Alaska for fining him $200 dollars for overloading aircraft.

How to fly:
Push forward to make the houses get bigger...
Pull back to make the houses get smaller...

The propeller is nothing but a big fan to keep the pilot cool. Don't believe me? shut it off and watch him sweat.

It wasn't his fault, it wasn't my fault, it was the asphault.

OK, this is out of context but it has an aptness, all the same.

This trialogue is from a couple weeks ago flying out of ATL. It involved a Delta Jet (DJ) a Northwest Jet(NJ) and a popular ground controller(C) at ATL. I was riding jumpseat in the DJ and listening in:

DJ: Atlanta Ground, Delta 1565 ready to push

C: (The voice of a hip sounding black dude with a ghetto slang) DL One figh six figh, push approved, push tail nouth...How you doin'?

DJ: Uhh, Atlanta Ground, DL 1565, We be jammin'!

NJ: Atlanta Ground, Northwest 635 out of ramp 4, requesting push back.

C: Nordwest six tree figh, push approved tail South...How you doin'?

NJ: We be jammin' too.

C: Good. I likes it when everybody be jammin'!

(I guess you had to be there.)

Jetlag is finding you wallet in the refridgerator and not remebering where you put the milk.

God is my copilot but the devil is my bombardier.

the other one:
(from AvWeb)

ATL ATC:
Delta xxx fly heading 180 for noise abatement.

Delta XXX:
What kind of noise can we make at 30000ft?

ATL:
Ever hear the noise a 727 makes when it hits an MD-80?

Have you noticed something interesting? That almost all pilots flying single props, prefer the tabel fan model while chopper pilots have a thing for ceiling fans. They are a curious breed - the pilots - aren't they!

Whats the difference between God and a pilot? God doesn't think he's a pilot.

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

Love this one:

Ladies and gentleman, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress.
