MAC_Veteran, you are right, the A340s have initiallt been deferred. They were originally supposed to be in the fleet noe, but delivery was slipped to 2003. The 777-200(ER) is an a/c which fits the same niche. It would not make sense to add another type, with new engines, to fill the same role that you already have aircraft for. I absoloutly think the order with be cancelled. Who knows, maybe Boeing will buty these A340s, and just burn thm out in the desert.(LOL)
GoA340, the A340-8000 is NOT the same aircraft as the A340-200. The 8000 is a development of the -300, with an 8,000 mile range. Air Canada has signed on to be the first customer.
