Notdownlocked --was there enough hotel rooms for everybody?
No way, lotta folks were put up in private homes (I swear, Maritimers are some of the kindest-hearted people on the entire Planet. Relatives of Swissair 111 found this out, a few years ago)
Last piece on the late CTV news Sunday..talking about a couple from England, parents and relatives accompanying them on their way to Vegas, to get married. So they get diverted to Halifax, and the plans seemingly shot to hell. But then locals in a nearby suburb (Lower Sackville) have them stay over, and when the neighbourhood finds out about the initial wedding plans, they get together and within a day have wedding arrangements, catering, reception, plus a RCMP mountie escort from the local detachment with the red costume, horse and the whole bit, all set and ready. So they get married there! Mother of the bride shaking her head, saying how grateful she is to everybody. Nice sunny day outside (something not that common in the Maritimes this time of year), so that worked out well too.
