C17 In Calgary

Thu Oct 18, 2001 5:04 am

Hello everyone! I was just at Calgary international yesterday picking up the girlfriend when I noticed there was a C17 parked on the ramp at the terminal. It was right next to the RAF L1011, does anyone know if this was US Airforce or RAF? And what it may have been doing there? Thanks! First time seeing a C17 in person, cool plane.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

LY744 that alert thing is meaningful in the context of military aviation. I am simply trying to gather an answer as to why a certain aircraft was at a Civil airport. So this topic has every reason to be in this forum. If I were inquiring into the RAF L1011 would that have also been military forum? Frankly this is all open to interpretation and I could argue for hours on this. So let it be, it's fine where it is.

Hey Arron,
I figure that 17 was RAF? Perhaps it was a rare replacement for one of the L1011s that were supposed to come in.

I also saw a C17 myself in August as I was taxing out in a plane.. It was parked in the apron as well and It had RAF logos on it.

Well I was in the terminal so I couldn't see it from the side, but it was right next to the L1011. So I guess a good assumption was that is was RAF.

But why not use the Military Aviation Forum? In my opinion this belongs in the military forum, but let's suppose its a borderline case, why not put it in the military forum? Trust me, you will have your question answered, and your thread will not be gone from the front page within a couple of hours.

RAF, if I recall right it was hauling some over sized cargo for Suffield I think.

Those planes are awesome. I've been in one during the Lethbridge Airshow and they just rock!
