HI, for those of you who have flown on United since the attacks, do the pilots still offer the channel 9 feature on their flights? I have a few flights on United coming up in the next few weeks and was just wondering if that feature would still be available. Kinda makes the time pass when your on a long flight....

I flew UA from SFO to NRT last week. On the outbound flight on Nov 17 Channel 9 was on. It was great, especially on our decent to NRT to listen to the Japanese controlers and the accents of all of the different pilots representing airlines from all over the world.
However, on the return on Monday, Channel 9 was off the entire duration of the flight.

Yes it should be, on all of my flights since Sept. 11 (SFO-ORD, ORD-PIT, PIT-ORD, ORD-SMF, SNA-SFO) Channel 9 had been activated.
If it's not, it's as easy as making a request to the captain through the F/A.
I'd say there's a 90% success factor in getting Ch9.

It is sometimes. I flew them roundtrip to DCA this past weekend and the outbound flight didn't have it on but the return flight did.

It depends on the pilot. I have flown 40,000 miles since Sept 11 and most have had it on, but not all. The ones that did not I asked the FA about it and they said the captain decided not to turn it on.

Like others said above,it's on most of the time. When I flew MIA-ORD this month the captain announced that #9 was available for those interested-a first for me to hear.Sometimes a f/a will announce it.

United pilots are proud to offer channel 9 and will generally make reference to it when welcoming the passengers aboard. Like someone else said, it is entirely up to the Captain to turn on ch. 9 or not. You will find that channel 9 will be available nearly 100% of the time.
I've flown 6 times since the attacks, and every flight has had ch. 9 available.
