I'd heard the MSY rumor for a couple of weeks now, and pretty much had it confirmed in the middle of last week. It'll be nice to see Frontier in here. Any thoughts on aircraft type?

I hope they're careful, avoiding the too-rapid expansion of Midway.

Wooooo Hooooo...gonna be nice to see those
animal tails gleaming in the South Florida Sun.

Hey Lowfair...you beat me to the punch. I was
gonna try and scoop the story.

My guess would be a 2nd flight within a few months
if it does well...like they do in MCO.
Im guessing the A319 will be the aircraft as they will
have 6 in service by then....

Its good there increasing frequency to BWI back to 2 flights a day (they dropped 1 after 9/11).

Frontier is also in the process of acquiring a 3rd and 4th slot at DCA to begin a 2nd daily non-stop flight. I've heard that they will most likely get the 2 additional slots.

Regards.

News of the FLL service is definitley good news! The Miami-Denver market is a huge O&D market that is overly underserved, especialy since 9/11. United and AA are both daily right now. UA has started new weekend-service and AA re-starts the second daily MIA-DEN next Saturday. I think UA is re-starting double-daily service in January (it is usually triple-daily). Plus, Vanguard offers, starting in a few short days, FLL-DEN service via MCI. Great news!

My guess is Frontier announcing FLL service is in response to Vanguard's announcement of FLL service from MCI.

Isn't competition great?  Smile

As far as the MSY service goes, it was definetely needed. United's nonstops go out full just about every day, even the 757 which they are flying right now. MSY-DEN is a big market. F9 gets to capitalize on Super Bowl traffic by starting service on 2/1. When United resumes it's 3rd daily nonstop in a couple of months, MSY-DEN will be served with 5 daily flights...a good total in my opinion.

Within the last year, Jet Blue, Midwest Express, and now Frontier, have started flights to New Orleans. ATA what are you waiting for? lol

I agree with Boeing757/767, I hope they are careful as well. Growth is good but too much growth, espectially with a small airline like Frontier, and they might end up like Midway.

Obviously, Frontier has to be careful - but then they always have been. Sam Addoms, the CEO, has the reputation of being one of the most cautious and conservative, and one of the wisest, around.

In 1998 they had about $8 million in reserves. Today they have about $100 million. Not bad for three years.

They are making money, even in the diastrous last quarter, that inlcuded 9/11. They are reinstating all their pre-9/11 service (except the second daily to Boston - maybe in the spring), restoring wages to pre-9/11 levels, re-hiring laid off staff, bringing back the last the of the parked 737's, replacing the fleet, and adding new destinations.

The stock price (FRNT) has not only recovered to it's pre-9/11 levels, it has exceeded them.

Midway, on the other hand, was on the ropes well before 9/11, cutting flights and destinations and then declaring bankruptcy. 9/11 was simply (one thought) the final nail in their coffin. But no - they are to fly again, thanks to a Fed bailout of around $12 million.

I find it difficult to compare Frontier to Midway.

You really can't compare JI and F9... Midway was competing on the AWEFULLY low yield north-south east coast traffic. DEN is a totally different story.

United has been running 2 daily flights to MIA from DEN.

In regards to FLL, it's an awefully LOW yield city. Low yield doesn't quite increase profits last time I checked..

Finally...another carrier to SMF!

Great market for Frontier, especially due to United pulling several flights, and downgrading others from larger 757/A320 to 737 and A319. Smart move.

I'm a 1K flier on United mainly flying between SMF, DEN and ORD one or two times a week. I think I may change my allegiance to F9 once the SMF service starts. This is great news. UA's flights out of SMF are frequently packed. I know many consultants like myself will put F9's service to good use. Great flight times too.

Didn't Frontier just start flying between DEN-AUS and DEN-RNO in October? Has anyone heard how those routes are doing?

BTW, I was surprised to see that Vanguard is adding a third flight between AUS-MCI effective (I think) 12/20/2001 due to a positive pasenger response. I'm hoping the same thing will happen with Frontier and their AUS-DEN service and that eventually they'll add more frequencies.

I'm glad that F9 is doing well, they are in very capable hands with Sam Addoms at the helm.

I would like to see F9 increasing frequencies in existing markets such as NYC and BOS.

The MSY service is an excellent choice since travellers going westbound mainly have to transfer in DFW.

F9 is offering a reasonable product. I think that they were tinkering with the idea of a premium cabin on their planes.

The Frontier Jet Express gives them the oportunity to expand into smaller markets, and adds new cities onto their route map.

Continued expansion into California markets, as well as into major east coast cities is the key to their future.

See you guys in PHL and TPA in a few months (Hopefully).

Frontier is very steady. Fact of the matter is, Denver has a much larger population catchment in its area than Raleigh Durham, which had to compete with Charlotte and Atlanta for passengers. Denver doesn't have a true rival in the area, except for underserved COS.

Hi, Exusair:

I agree with almost everything you say - except the idea of a premium cabin. At least as long as Sam Addoms is CEO, I doubt it will happen. He tends to take the view that if it ain't broke....

However, Jeff Potter is his anointed successor, and it was Potter who introduced Business Class to Vanguard. I don't know if it was his idea or the Board of Directors.

So - maybe - when Potter takes over at Frontier, things will change. Hope not. The one class cabin is one of the reasons I fly Frontier.

Cheers
